Initially shown in select cinemas in December, followed by a wider release in March, “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” is now poised to take over television screens. This 2D-animated movie will premiere on streaming platform Max (soon rebranded as HBO Max) on June 27, and it will air on HBO linear channel on June 28 at 8:00 p.m. ET. For those who missed its theater run, this provides an opportunity to relive the charm of the golden age of animation and reunite with the beloved cartoon pair, Porky Pig and Daffy Duck, once more.
At last, the pioneering fully-animated full-length movie based on Looney Tunes, initially faced a significant setback in August 2022 when Warner Bros. Discovery restructured their plans for The Day the Earth Blew Up, pulling it from HBO Max and Cartoon Network’s “ACME Night” block, and instead placing it on hold. However, Ketchup Entertainment eventually acquired the project and took over its North American distribution, paving the way for a theatrical release.
