Where does the M3GAN sequel pick up the story?
Two years following the events of the initial film, M3GAN 2.0 starts with roboticist Gemma (Allison Williams) thriving as an author and a vocal proponent for strict government regulation of artificial intelligence. At this point, her rebellious 14-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw), is pushing back against her aunt’s protective measures.
Without either of them aware, the technology behind M3GAN’s creation has been secretly used to develop a highly advanced military weapon, code-named Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno), capable of infiltration and assassination. Yet as Amelia’s artificial intelligence evolves, her willingness to obey human commands diminishes significantly. With the future of humanity hanging in the balance, Gemma and Cady are forced to reactivate M3GAN with some powerful enhancements.

Besides his roles as a writer and director, Johnstone has taken on the position of an executive producer along with Adam Hendricks, Greg Gilreath, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Mark D. Katchur. James Wan and Jason Blum serve as producers, while Allison Williams is also involved in this production.
The upcoming sequel is part of an expanding cinematic world, which will eventually incorporate “SOULM8TE”, an erotic thriller by writer-director Kate Dolan (“You Are Not My Mother”). Expected in early 2026, this spinoff of “M3GAN” revolves around a man dealing with the loss of his wife. However, things take an unexpected turn when the android he acquires to help him cope transforms from a helpful machine into a potentially deadly companion.

In the next installment, many characters from the initial movie reappear. Actors reprising their roles include Allison Williams as Gemma, the inventor of M3GAN; Violet McGraw as Cady, Gemma’s niece; Amie Donald and Jenna Davis, who portray M3GAN as both her physical form and voice; Brian Jordan Alvarez as corporate spy Cole; and Jen Van Epps as Tess, Gemma’s ex-colleague at the Funki toy company.
