In “Avengers: Doomsday,” characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe unite, but everyone’s safety is at stake as Doctor Doom makes his appearance. The film boasts a diverse cast featuring veterans like Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and newcomers such as the Fantastic Four. Moreover, it explores the multiverse creatively, bringing in stars from the original X-Men series by Fox, some of whom may not survive the battle.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it’s become customary for major deaths to grace the Avengers films. With rumors swirling about a soft reboot post-“Avengers: Secret Wars,” characters who have been with us for a while, including some seasoned veterans, might not survive. If they decide to follow Doctor Doom’s character arc as depicted in the comics, his deadly blend of magical and technological prowess could well result in such losses.
10. Shuri/Black Panther
Played By Letitia Wright
Initiating our discussion, we find Shuri leading the way. The character portrayed by Letitia Wright in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU) is currently stepping into the role of Black Panther following the sad demise of Chadwick Boseman and the on-screen death of T’Challa within the franchise. In a near-fatal clash with Namor, Shuri narrowly escaped in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, and Doctor Doom has the potential to bring about her actual demise.
In a fresh twist, the Black Panther series has introduced a revised character based on T’Challa, specifically Toussaint, the son of the original Black Panther. Marvel Studios is rumored to be considering the recasting of T’Challa via the multiverse, and this, coupled with Toussaint’s entrance, may signal the potential demise of Shuri, who might sacrifice herself for a new Black Panther to step up.
9. Hank McCoy/Beast
Played By Kelsey Grammer
In the upcoming film, “Avengers: Doomsday,” I think we might see the original X-Men from Fox bid their farewell as this version of the team. Some characters could appear in “Avengers: Secret Wars,” but it seems fitting for a few X-Men to meet their end in the next Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers movie.
One of the characters that seems likely to meet his end is Beast. Notably, he was the initial X-Men character employed by the MCU to pave the way for Avengers: Doomsday, as evidenced in The Marvels. This leads me to believe that he will play a crucial part in the movie. Given his altruistic nature, it wouldn’t surprise me if Beast were to make a selfless sacrifice.
8. Ava Starr/Ghost
Played By Hannah John-Kamen
Although Ghost has only made two appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), she has been a part of the franchise for quite some time now. She first emerged on the scene in 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, but it was the recent release, Thunderbolts, that truly piqued my interest in this character. Despite enjoying Ghost during her initial MCU appearance, Thunderbolts has made me eager to see more of her in future projects.
*Note: Thunderbolts is a fictional team appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics and has not yet been introduced in the MCU as of this writing.
It seems to me that this could be a tactic Marvel is employing to tease their fans. Given that Ghost is reintroduced in “Avengers: Doomsday,” and then killed off shortly after, it’s reminiscent of how Marvel has handled some characters in the past.
7. Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier
Played By Sebastian Stan
Bucky Barnes has been a key figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for quite some time. So if anything were to happen to him, it would likely be a heart-wrenching event that leaves both fellow heroes and viewers emotional. In recent years, Sebastian Stan’s character within the MCU has experienced significant development, reconciling with his past as the Winter Soldier.
Every MCU Avengers Movie | |
---|---|
Movie | Release Date |
The Avengers | 2012 |
Avengers: Age of Ultron | 2015 |
Avengers: Infinity War | 2018 |
Avengers: Endgame | 2019 |
Avengers: Doomsday | 2026 |
Avengers: Secret Wars | 2027 |
In “Thunderbolts,” Bucky is walking the path towards making amends for his past wrongdoings. He has now become a key figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s New Avengers team, implying he will have a significant part to play in “Avengers: Doomsday.” Similar to Chris Evans’ Captain America, Bucky often finds himself putting himself in danger to protect others, even if it means risking his own life.
6. Ant-Man
Played By Paul Rudd
The Ant-Man series within the Marvel Cinematic Universe has reached its conclusion. Given that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania didn’t meet Marvel’s expectations, there’s a chance Paul Rudd’s character’s impact on the franchise could be continued through his daughter, Cassie. This suggests that Ant-Man might say goodbye to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday.
In a different phrasing, it was initially planned that Jonathan Majors’ character, Kang the Conqueror, would be the primary antagonist in the Multiverse Saga. However, Ant-Man managed to defeat him. Considering this, it’s plausible that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom might have knowledge of this event. If so, taking out Ant-Man early on could be a strategic move for Doom, leveraging the earlier setup of Kang in the MCU.
5. Red Guardian
Played By David Harbour
In the upcoming movie, “Avengers: Doomsday,” it’s expected that the cast from “Thunderbolts” will significantly impact the plot. Given their roles, I find it hard to imagine all of the team surviving this film. As the oldest member among the New Avengers (excluding Bucky during his time under HYDRA control), Red Guardian seems particularly susceptible to meet a tragic end while battling Doctor Doom.
In the most recent 2025 Marvel Cinematic Universe film, David Harbour’s character stood out as the emotional core of the team. It was Red Guardian who bestowed them with their name, labeling them the Thunderbolts and suggesting that they could achieve honor together. His demise would significantly affect the team, potentially being a selfless act to safeguard his daughter, Yelena.
4. Magneto
Played By Ian McKellen
Given that the original X-Men team is making a comeback, it seems plausible that two major characters from the franchise, aside from Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, could meet their end in “Avengers: Doomsday.” Magneto, who has consistently fought for the preservation of mutants and against humans, might find his demise a fitting response to the impending Incursions, as he would not be content with such a threat to his universe.
Magneto goes to great lengths to safeguard his people, which positions him as a significant adversary for Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. It wouldn’t surprise me if these two clashed in a struggle of wits, culminating in the demise of Sir Ian McKellen’s Magneto, underscoring the might of Doom within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
3. Charles Xavier/Professor X
Played By Patrick Stewart
In various live-action portrayals, the character played by Patrick Stewart, Charles Xavier (also known as Professor X), has met his end on multiple occasions. He was killed in the primary X-Men narrative, as depicted in the movie ‘Logan’, and also suffered a fatal blow at the hands of Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since Marvel has already taken the step to end this character once, it might do so again.
Charles Xavier is the founder of the X-Men, acting as their guardian for all mutantkind. Together with Magneto, they are often the first to step into danger to safeguard their kind and the world they have built. Given Charles’ immense power, it’s logical that Doctor Doom would attempt an early strike against him.
2. Loki
Played By Tom Hiddleston
In the upcoming movie “Avengers: Doomsday,” I have a strong feeling that two characters near the end of the list will not survive. One of them is Tom Hiddleston’s character, Loki. By the finale of Disney+’s “Loki” season 2, Loki underwent a significant change, transitioning from the God of Trickery to a protector across the multiverse.
If Robert Downey Jr.’s character as Doctor Doom desires the ability to construct a realm like Battleworld, as seen in the comics, then it’s plausible that he might pursue Loki. Given that Loki is the MCU’s God of Stories, he has insight into all events unfolding across the multiverse. This makes him a potential obstacle for Doctor Doom. Since I anticipate the villain to emerge victorious in Avengers: Doomsday, there’s a chance that Loki could meet his end.
1. Thor
Played By Chris Hemsworth
In the end, it’s Thor, portrayed by Chris Hemsworth, who concludes our list. Interestingly, he had hinted at Thor’s potential demise as far back as three years ago during an interview with Vanity Fair. Lately, there has been a significant rise in the likelihood of Thor meeting his end. This is largely due to recent comments and videos from Chris Hemsworth, who will reprise his role as Thor in the upcoming MCU film, Avengers: Doomsday.
On YouTube, the Marvel actor expressed gratitude to fans for his adventure within the MCU, a sentiment that seemed like a farewell. Since Thor is one of the strongest characters in the MCU and among the original Avengers, his death could be a profoundly shocking scene in the upcoming film. I speculate that Thor might sacrifice himself to save Loki, which would make for an emotionally resonant ending for this hero in Avengers: Doomsday.
