Michael Douglas to Present Newly Restored ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ at KVIFF

This year, Michael Douglas is set to be part of the star-studded lineup at the 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Known for attracting A-list celebrities from Hollywood, this event promises another glamorous gathering.

The star is planning to journey to the charming Czech spa town for a special showing of Miloš Forman’s restored edition of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”. This film, which Douglas was involved in producing and featured Jack Nicholson, will be screened as part of KVIFF’s “Out of the Past” collection.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the iconic 1975 film that dominated the Oscars and garnered numerous international accolades. The festival has announced that Michael Douglas, one of its producers and winner of the Best Picture Academy Award, will personally present the restored version at a special red-carpet screening. Accompanying him will be fellow producer Paul Zaentz, nephew of Saul Zaentz who co-produced the film, along with some family members of Miloš Forman, the director.

The screening is not just a regular event, but also a tribute to Karlovy Vary’s decades-long connection with “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and its talented team. As the festival’s supporters, Forman, Douglas, Zaentz, and actor Danny DeVito (who was part of the movie) were all honored with the Crystal Globe for their significant contributions to global cinema. The film made Academy Awards history by winning all five major categories: best picture (Douglas and Zaentz), best director (Forman), best actor (Jack Nicholson), best actress (Louise Fletcher), and best adapted screenplay (Lawrence Hauben and Bo Goldman).

Douglas made a trip to Karlovy Vary in 1998, where both him and Saul Zaentz received the Crystal Globe as an honor.
