145 People Say They Were Stabbed With Syringes at French Music Festival

12 individuals were apprehended in France after approximately 145 people throughout the country alleged being punctured with needles during a widespread music festival over the weekend, as reported by various sources on Monday.

The reported stabbings transpired during France’s Fête de la Musique, a yearly nationwide event held on June 21st. According to the New York Times, out of the incidents documented, 13 occurred in Paris. A spokesperson for France’s Interior Ministry informed CNN that they are conducting toxicology tests to determine if any victims may have been exposed to drugs or other substances.

According to a representative from the Interior Ministry, they are giving this matter great attention.

It’s uncertain if any of the stabbing victims received injections of any substances, and we won’t know for sure until the toxicology tests are completed. According to CNN’s French affiliate BFMTV, three individuals in Paris claimed to have been pricked with syringes at various locations throughout the city on Saturday, and all three reported feeling unwell afterwards.

According to The Guardian, there are four individuals under suspicion in Angoulême, who are believed to have targeted approximately 50 people.

Concerns about incidents labeled as “needle spiking” have been on the rise across Europe lately, with various media outlets such as The Times and The Washington Post discussing this topic at bars and nightclubs. The rumors of drug injections via needles started circulating after the tragic crowd surge at the Astroworld Festival in 2021; however, these reports were later found to be baseless.
