¿Cómo se dice “major streaming service”?
As a passionate fan, I can’t help but share some exciting news! You might not have come across Vix yet, the Spanish-streaming platform owned by TelevisaUnivision. But get ready to hear plenty more about it in the near future!
In 2025, it’s predicted that Vix will be the most rapidly expanding paid subscription streaming platform across North and South America, excluding Canada, as per projections by Ampere Analysis. This year alone, Ampere anticipates a 18% increase in Vix’s subscriber count, bringing their customer base in these regions to approximately 10.5 million.
According to Ampere, our growth rate ought to exceed that of “any significant subscription-based streaming service provider within the region.” Ampere defines a ‘major’ player as any streaming platform boasting over 2 million subscribers.
The wager isn’t entirely unlikely. In fact, ViX has successfully accomplished this in the past – specifically last year. Given the three-year growth trend presented, it seems likely that they will repeat the feat once more next year as well.
What’s the reason behind this development? It seems there are several contributing elements. Firstly, ViX is quite new; it was introduced in 2022. When you begin with a small base, any growth can appear exaggerated when measured in percentage terms.
Not only has Momentum been built for ViX, but it’s also contributed significantly to this growth. In fact, since its launch, ViX has more than doubled the size of its Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) library, amassing over 2,500 titles in just three years. The majority of ViX’s catalog focuses on Crime and Thriller genres, while Romance (primarily telenovelas) accounts for about 18% of its content offerings. Analysts from Ampere find the “freemium” business model used by ViX—which includes a free tier, an ad-supported tier, and an ad-free one—to be a crucial factor in its rapid expansion.
ViX has proactively sought out collaborations and package deals, not just within the U.S., but globally as well. For instance, a recent agreement in the U.S. with Charter Communications will bring approximately 900,000 new ad-supported subscribers on board from 2024 to 2026. Similarly, in Mexico, ViX collaborates with OXXO, Mercado Libre, and a popular streaming service known as Disney+.
As a passionate fan, I’d express it like this: “I’ve been thoroughly impressed by Vix! This platform has truly tapped into the appetite for Spanish-language content. Its innovative hybrid business strategy caters to all types of viewers with multiple subscription options and an extensive library. The company’s strong foothold in the Americas, coupled with its deep insights into Spanish-speaking audiences, enables it to generate substantial revenue through advertising – a key driver for its success. Given these advantages, Vix is poised to outshine competitors in terms of subscriber growth and revenue expansion, particularly in the realm of advertising.
In a shift among many streamers towards making profits instead of just gaining subscribers, ViX entered the market with a well-defined strategy that included multiple pricing tiers from the start. Meanwhile, other competitors are now adding ad tiers and tightening rules on password sharing, but ViX has already managed to become the third global streaming platform to achieve profitability in a short amount of time.
