It’s hard to get one cringe-worthy Stephen Colbert image out of our minds.
Do you recall the peculiar dance routine by the comedian under the regime, accompanied by musical syringes amidst the COVID-19 pandemic? It was hardly humiliating; it was downright bizarre.
He may have exceeded that moment this week.
As a movie buff, I couldn’t help but notice the shaky story that CNN recently aired regarding President Donald Trump’s airstrikes on alleged Iranian nuclear facilities. Initially, they seemed to suggest that these strikes had minimal impact. However, in a surprising turn of events, CNN quickly retracted this report.
The report deliberately left out the crucial phrase “low confidence,” with the intention of transforming a Pentagon leak into an opportunity for accusation against President Trump.
Sound familiar?
In just a short time, the evaluation fell apart clearly under sunlight. Newer accounts indicate that the explosions inflicted substantial harm on Iranian sites, as stated by both Israel’s Atomic Energy Commission and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations’ nuclear monitoring agency.
In short, it’s Fake News all over again.
Except Colbert jumped on the initial CNN findings to hammer Team Trump.
Great, one fewer issue to worry about! But, there’s a catch: it turns out that the U.S. intelligence has found out Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile remains untouched, and most of their centrifuges are still intact. Oh no, this could lead to nuclear issues. So, instead of winding down Operation Midnight Hammer, we might need more action, like Operation MC Hammer. And, guess what? Iran’s nuclear scientists have just shared some news about their centrifuges.
Stephen Colbert briefly played a piece of MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This” and danced to the 1990 hit, luckily avoiding the Dancing Rasps this time around.
(Instead of focusing on the idea that he’s encouraging a terrorist group’s development of nuclear weapons just to undermine Trump, consider this: He’s doing it out of national pride.)
Since Donald Trump arrived on the political stage, there’s been a recurring pattern of misinformation, often referred to as ‘Fake News’. Mainstream media outlets have a tendency to exaggerate or distort the truth, if you look at it charitably.
Then, on cue, late-night DNC shills take it from there.
Many speeches delved into the topic of the so-called Russian collusion allegation. However, this particular instance is worthy of particular focus.
At least CNN tried to correct their mistaken reports. Don’t anticipate similar actions from Team Colbert. They’ll likely continue searching online for the thinnest, anti-Trump stories they can capitalize on.
