On Friday, the unexpected arrival of New Zealand artist Lorde sent festival-goers at the Glastonbury Music Festival in the UK dashing towards the Woodsies section.
The two-time Grammy Award winner first expressed her enthusiasm, stating she was “fairly excited” about reappearing at the festival. Some took this to suggest she could make an appearance during the weekend.
Excitement filled Worthy Farm’s attendees in Somerset as rumors swirled about an upcoming concert by her on Friday morning. This happened to be the exact day her album titled “Virgin” was set for release.
Or, more concisely:
On Friday at Worthy Farm in Somerset, attendees were thrilled by news of a performance, coinciding with the release of her new album “Virgin“.
Wow, this is incredible!” I exclaimed as I played through most of the tracks from her freshly-released album. “I’m dropping it here and now! After tonight’s performance, the album will be available for all to enjoy!
Apart from stating this, she mentioned, “It required much effort from me to achieve this; honestly, I wasn’t sure if I’d create another album – but I’m here now, absolutely liberated. I’m deeply thankful that you chose to wait for my return.
At the Woodsies tent, Lorde captivated thousands with performances of “What Was That,” “Man of the Year,” and the popular 2017 single “Green Light.” Due to an overwhelming crowd, Glastonbury organizers had to close off the area before her set began.
Her latest single, titled ‘What Was That’, follows her last album ‘Solar Power’ which was released in August 2021. Although it has been a while since her last solo release, she has made appearances elsewhere, such as on Charli XCX’s remix of ‘Girl, so confusing’ from the album ‘Brat’. The British singer is scheduled to perform at the festival this coming Saturday evening.
At the end of April, Lorde unveiled the title of her fourth album on Instagram, along with the album cover – a striking blue X-ray depicting a zipper running down a pelvis, a belt buckle, and an intrauterine device (IUD).
Over the weekend, The Glastonbury Festival will feature performances by The 1975, Neil Young, and Olivia Rodrigo as the main acts.
