Penny Noble, one of the founders of the prominent Canadian talent agency Noble Caplan Abrams (NCA), passed away at the age of 58.
Rick Gerrits, an agent specializing in films and television at NCA, shared with The Hollywood Reporter that Noble passed away on June 23 in Toronto, following a diagnosis of brain cancer five months prior.
Hailing from Toronto and a product of Earl Haig High School, Noble established Noble Talent Management in 1977, leveraging the growth of the burgeoning Canadian film and TV sector.
In 1998, the banner was renamed to Noble Caplan, and later, in 2003, it became known as Noble Caplan Abrams. This talent management agency has a notable roster of Canadian clients such as Drake, Simu Liu, Kelly McCormack, Stephen James, and Nina Dobrev.
Rich Caplan, co-founder of NCA, expressed in a statement about his longtime business associate: “Penny Noble was an unstoppable achiever, a benefactor, a visionary, a risk-taker, a team player, a trailblazer, and a truly exceptional talent agent. A feminist without the need for labels, Penny consistently chose to march to her own beat. She wrote her own rules and then followed them rigorously. And she tolerated no disrespect.
Following Noble’s demise, it was announced earlier this year that Norbert Abrams, a partner at NCA and a renowned talent agent, decided to retire from the firm.
As a teenage aspiring actress, Kim Roberts (known for roles in ‘Paw Patrol’ and ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’) recounted on her Instagram that she learned about Noble, a talent agent, from a neighbor during a brief car ride to the subway.
Years rolled by, and I found myself starring in a play titled “sistahs“. Two of my on-stage companions were under Penny Noble’s management. They managed to secure me an interview with the same agency. Eventually, I was picked up by Angela Wright, but somehow, fate led me back to Penny’s roster where I spent over two decades, with a brief hiatus in between.
Penny was more than just my agent; she was a friend, confidant, and my biggest supporter. She had a unique vision for my career that she tirelessly pursued. I will forever be indebted to her for the solid grounding she provided me in this industry.
Thank you, Penny, for your love and the significant impact you made on this industry. You will be deeply missed. May you rest in eternal peace.
Lately, I’ve been dabbling in film production, taking on the role of an executive producer for the comedy movie “Stealing the Sky.” This Toronto-based production stars the talented Megan Follows, alongside co-star and writer Marie Dame. It’s been quite an exciting journey!
As a generous benefactor, Noble donated to organizations such as World Vision, Planned Parenthood, the Brady Center, and numerous local theater groups. She leaves behind two daughters, Gigi and Gemma, whom she adopted from China and raised alone, and her sibling, Craig.
