Currently, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) permits one use of the “F” word in a movie rated PG-13. If there are more instances, the film is automatically upgraded to an R rating.
In the currently playing theater version of M3GAN 2.0, just like other movies, it doesn’t buck the trend – you’ll find a single instance of a popular American swear word in the sequel. Unlike the original film where the curse was hurled at M3GAN’s first human victim, Brandon (Jack Cassidy), this time around, the title character, voiced by Jenna Davis, earns the distinction of using salty language.

Voice of M3GAN didn’t know she’d get the sequel’s only F-bomb
In an interview with SYFY Wire over Zoom, Davis admitted she wasn’t sure if she would be the one to utter the film’s sole F-bomb until seeing the completed movie during the world premiere. “I thought that since M3GAN’s dialogue is often unpredictable and surprising, it might likely be her who said it,” the actress clarified. In simpler terms, she believed that due to M3GAN’s character being unpredictable and shocking, it was possible that she would say the F-bomb.
In a short while after receiving a temporary body from her cautious inventor, Gemma Forrester (Allison Williams), who fears M3GAN might cause more havoc, M3GAN’s uncanny profanity surfaces. Upon discovering that her AI consciousness has been transferred into an innocent-looking Moxie doll, M3GAN expresses her displeasure with the question: “What in the world is this?

During the filming process, we’d often take multiple attempts. Instead of using the actual word, I’d occasionally say something amusing, such as ‘fa-doodle-cakes’, which they could use in the final cut. This way, I never knew exactly what would be used until the premiere. In fact, I didn’t watch the entire film from start to finish until then – they kept it a secret so it would be a surprise. When I finally saw it, I was amazed! I exclaimed, “Oh, okay — M3GAN got it!” [laughs]
It’s anticipated that Universal Pictures, Blumhouse, and Atomic Monster might eventually provide an uncensored version of M3GAN 2.0, similar to what they did with the initial film, which included more explicit language and graphic violence than its family-friendly counterpart.
