It’s not surprising at all that the finale of Squid Game garnered an enormous global viewership, seeing as it’s the most popular series Netflix has ever aired. Yet, the magnitude of this South Korean sensation remains astonishing.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share the incredible news about our beloved series. In just three days from June 27 to 29, the final season garnered an astounding 60.1 million views globally – setting a new record in Netflix’s internal rankings for the largest three-day tally! Although season two, which debuted on December 26, 2024, had a slightly higher opening-week total of 68 million views spread over four days, this one truly took the world by storm in a much shorter span. Interestingly, both seasons found their way into Netflix’s all-time top 10 for non-English language shows during their first week, making history on both the English and non-English series charts – an achievement never before seen!
In simpler terms, with 60.1 million views on Netflix for Season 3, that amounts to approximately 368.4 million hours of total watch time. This is the shortest season among the three Squid Game seasons, meaning it can accumulate viewer numbers (total watching time divided by episode length) at a slightly quicker pace than the first two seasons did.
In the week of June 23-29, “Squid Game” held the top spot in every country where Netflix monitors data, marking a first for any show on their platform. The final season finds character Player 456/Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) making a desperate effort to dismantle the lethal competition from within, while the last scene suggests that these games might be happening worldwide.
A Korean culture-inspired series titled “KPop Demon Hunters” also experienced a successful week on Netflix. In its second week, the animated film climbed to the top spot on the English-language movie chart, boasting an impressive 24.2 million views, which is equivalent to that many full screenings of the movie.
As a passionate fan, I can’t help but marvel at the staggering success of “Squid Game.” To this day, it continues to hold the crown as Netflix’s most-watched series ever, racking up an astounding 265.2 million views in just its first 13 weeks! Even more impressive, season two is currently the second-most viewed non-English language series with a whopping 192.6 million views. And here’s something truly exciting: if current trends continue, season three could soon break into the top five most-watched series on Netflix!
