The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film in 2025, titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“, has received its official rating from the MPAA. Given that it marks the beginning of Phase 6 for the MCU and is the first time the main characters will appear in the universe, it’s no surprise that the movie carries a vast array of anticipations, given its potential to introduce the Fantastic Four team. As the 37th film in the MCU since 2008, fans are also eagerly awaiting the familiar themes and high-octane action sequences that have become synonymous with the franchise.
Marvel Studio’s film titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” was formally assigned a PG-13 rating approximately a month before its cinema premiere. This isn’t surprising, given that nearly all Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films have been rated PG-13 in theaters during the past 17 years. Aiming for a blockbuster opening weekend, Marvel appears to be maximizing The Fantastic Four‘s potential success with this rating choice.
The MPAA has officially announced that “The Fantastic Four” will carry a PG-13 rating, as was widely anticipated by Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans. This rating is due to the film’s content containing “action/violence and some language,” which aligns with the descriptions typically found on MCU’s theatrically released films. Apart from “Deadpool & Wolverine” in 2024, all other Marvel Studios movies (35 in total) have been rated PG-13. In fact, many of these films share this exact description. Furthermore, it’s worth noting that all previous live-action versions of “The Fantastic Four” also received a PG-13 rating.
Titled “The Fantastic Four: Initial Leaps“, this upcoming movie features Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as its main characters. This film marks the start of Phase 6 for Marvel Studios and the first appearance of the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Having gained their powers a few years ago, they will join forces to confront the ominous threat posed by Galactus, who seeks to annihilate and consume their world next. Set to hit theaters on July 25.
How PG-13 Rating Will Impact The Fantastic Four: First Steps
In terms of themes, action, and drama, fans can anticipate similar elements in “The Fantastic Four” as they’ve seen in previous PG-13 rated superhero movies within the series. Although explicit language such as the F-bomb might be rare (it has only been used once outside of Deadpool and Wolverine in the MCU), this new Phase 6 installment should not disappoint in other aspects.
The video clips have already hinted at numerous exhilarating action scenes, showcasing tantalizing glimpses of the main team’s abilities that are reminiscent of past Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films and traditional Marvel stories. Given the extensive amount of violence, wreckage, and devastation displayed in the duology starring Chris Evans and Jessica Alba, it’s anticipated that the MCU will deliver similar visual and narrative intensity.
Regardless of any minor letdowns regarding factors such as runtime, the overall rating doesn’t alter fans’ anticipations about The Fantastic Four, suggesting a consistent level of quality they can look forward to.
Meanwhile, supporters will have to be patient as they anticipate more details about the implications of the PG-13 rating, given that additional footage could potentially surface in the coming fortnight.
