True Brit Entertainment Touts ‘The Death of Robin Hood,’ ‘Christmas Karma,’ Slate Investment

During a first-time event held in London on Wednesday, the following films were highlighted: “The Death of Robin Hood” featuring Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer, “Christmas Karma,” a musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” by Gurinder Chadha (“Bend It Like Beckham”) starring Kunal Nayyar, Eva Longoria, Billy Porter, Hugh Bonneville, Boy George, and others; “500 Miles,” which includes horror titles like “The Scurry” with Ella Purnell and “The Dreadful”; and “Sunny Dancer.

Zygi Kamasa, head of True Brit Entertainment (which he also founded) and a previous CEO of Lionsgate U.K. and Europe, commenced the occasion by reviewing the initial 18 months of the company’s history and its achievements. “We are committed to supporting independent British narratives, confident that every one of our films will be successful box-office hits in cinemas,” he declared. “We firmly believe that audiences yearn for more exceptional British movies, not just those with large budgets or grandeur, but ones that are intriguing, unique, commercially viable, and feature captivating British characters, settings, and tales that they can enjoy at the cinema.

Kamasa also emphasized that the company has previously supported and financed 13 British films, “with ten of these already completed, and three more set to begin production within the coming months.” He further stated, “Each of these films … collectively amounts to over $125 million in U.K. film production budgets. Although this may seem small compared to the billions that major studios or streaming platforms might invest, it still represents one of the largest individual investments in independent British cinema made by any single company within the past year.

The CEO commended the robust success of our initial two productions: “The Critic,” a chilling thriller from the 1930s London backdrop starring Ian McKellen, Gemma Arterton, Mark Strong, Alfred Enoch, and Lesley Manville, and “Marching Powder,” an outrageous comedy about addiction, violence, and uplifting conclusions, featuring Danny Dyer.

He assured everyone that True Brit would back up their words with action, stating, “We plan to invest in each film as if it were a blockbuster, creating unique and daring marketing campaigns with local advertising strategies, and high-profile publicity events using the best British talent we collaborate with.

Chadha concluded the event by sharing popular scenes from the movie “Christmas Karma.” She told the audience, “This is a distinctly British film reflecting my personal perspective and echoing Dickens’ profound insights about humanity. I believe it’s particularly relevant today.

Describing it as “an enchanting, vibrant, heartwarming Christmas film” with a “great” soundtrack, she stated: “We’re eagerly anticipating sharing this movie on the big screen. It was designed for the big screen.

As a filmmaker hailing from Britain over the past three decades, I must say it’s heartwarming to witness an abundance of captivating films and talented directors. Zygi and True Brit are truly reviving the spirit of British cinema in a way that resonates deeply with me.
