On a Wednesday, the presiding judge in New York, handling Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal trial for sex trafficking and racketeering charges, decided that Combs would remain imprisoned rather than being granted bail, as he awaits sentencing following his conviction on two counts of facilitating prostitution.
The ruling to incarcerate the former hip-hop tycoon, following his controversial split verdict on Wednesday, resulted in his conviction for only two out of five charges from a federal indictment. This trial, which captivated public attention for its sensational nature over the past few years, took place at a lower Manhattan courtroom.
Following the court’s reading of the verdict on Wednesday, Combs’ main defense lawyer requested his immediate release from jail, as he is no longer facing charges for the severe crimes the government alleged. The prosecution contested this, claiming that Combs poses a flight risk and continues to interfere, even while serving time in Brooklyn for nearly a year. Both parties have been directed to submit written arguments to the judge regarding bail or imprisonment by 1 p.m. today. Furthermore, the prosecution announced their intention to seek a tough sentencing that could keep Combs behind bars for two decades.
More to come.
