Just last week, the Waco Surf wave pool was transformed into a unique sports playground unlike any other during the Swatch Nines Surf 2025 event. This extraordinary gathering combined surfing, skateboarding, and BMX stunts under the radiant Texas sun. The occasion also served as the debut of the Swatch Scubaqua, while embodying the Nines’ philosophy that creativity takes priority over competition. With ample room for experimentation, these talented athletes, filmmakers, and photographers delivered three incredible days filled with creative chaos.

At the heart of it all was innovation and advancement, as groundbreaking elements were introduced that stretched the boundaries of surfing. A towering crane held aloft a novel halfpipe, equipped with rails and wall rides, offering snowboarding and skate-like features to surfers for the first time ever. The spectacle also unveiled the breathtaking Swatch Flying O, an LED ring suspended by a crane, allowing surfers to leap through it, creating a “ring of fire” that illuminated the night sky. Additional elements such as the Reef Fanning Shoe Wallride, rotating rail constructions, and the remote-controlled Motowinch paved the way for some of the most pioneering surfing moments ever experienced.

This gathering was a hub of groundbreaking feats and exceptional acts. Hughie Vaughan executed a world-first stale fish backflip, instantly gaining widespread attention online. Notable moments also include Noah Beschen’s impressive rail surfing with a fashionable switch revert dismount, as well as Matt Meola performing the first-ever stale fish alley-oop rodeo 540, now known as the “Meola Flip.” The event also featured cross-discipline thrills with BMX and skateboard legends like Kevin Peraza, Andy Anderson, and Alex Midler showcasing their skills on top of the wave.
