Prior to the release of “F1: The Movie” in cinemas a week ago, Brad Pitt had initially been planned to feature in another racing movie, with Tom Cruise as his co-star.
In an interview with The National on a Wednesday, the actor expressed his desire to work alongside his Interview with the Vampire co-star once more in future projects. Pitt had initially planned to team up with Cruise for Ford v Ferrari, but they ultimately parted ways from the film as Cruise discovered that his character would not be driving much.
For a period, Tom and I were slated to work together on the film “Ford v Ferrari,” with Joe at the helm, as he shared. This collaboration took place approximately 10 years prior to the team that eventually produced the movie, turning it into a successful piece of cinema.
In essence, we had a shared desire to take on different roles – he preferred to portray Shelby, while I was drawn to Ken Miles. However, when Tom found out that Carroll Shelby wouldn’t be heavily involved in the film’s driving scenes, he felt it lacked authenticity.
In the end, it was Christian Bale who portrayed Ken Miles, with Matt Damon taking on the role of Carroll Shelby. James Mangold was the one who directed the film.
Brad Pitt spoke about speculations surrounding a possible follow-up to the F1 film, confessing that he harbors a desire to race once more, personally. However, his character, Sonny Hayes, exits Formula One racing in the original storyline. He expressed interest in possibly collaborating on a continuation of Cruise’s 1990 racing movie, Days of Thunder, as The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that Cruise was considering a sequel to the NASCAR racing film.
The main point remains F1, with emphasis on Joshua Pierce, portrayed by Damson Idris, and his team as they strive for a championship. However, the role of Sonny is uncertain at this point. Given his character’s affinity for speed, he might be racing to break records out on the Bonneville Salt Flats, but beyond that, the details are still unclear.
