The UFC is coming to The White House.
During a gathering in Iowa on Friday evening, President Trump expressed his wish to arrange a martial arts spectacle, sponsored by a renowned promoter, within the premises of the White House, as part of the preparations to honor America’s 250th birthday.
A representative from the UFC has announced their plans, which they shared with The Hollywood Reporter. According to reports, UFC CEO Dana White will be disclosing further details about this event in the near future.
Trump announced that our national park battlefields and historic sites will host events for America 250, and he also mentioned the possibility of a UFC match. He asked if anyone was familiar with Dana White, who is involved in UFC. Trump suggested this UFC fight could take place on the White House grounds, given the ample space available.
He added that it will be “a championship fight, full fight, like 20, 25,000 people.”
It remains unspecified as to where the fight will occur within the premises, nor is there clarity on the kind of facility that will be constructed for the event. However, previous UFC events have been hosted in Washington D.C., specifically at the Capital One Arena.
Trump is indeed quite connected to White, who has been a dedicated and early advocate. The President has also made multiple appearances at UFC matches, even following his inauguration this year. UFC belongs to TKO Group Holdings, which is helmed by Ari Emanuel and Mark Shapiro, and ultimately governed by Endeavor, the corporation that also manages (now privately-owned) talent agency WME.
White isn’t shy about grandeur, often making his fights into significant cultural occurrences where the venue plays a vital role alongside the matches themselves. Amidst the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UFC established what they termed as “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi, allowing them to host events safely. More recently, the company took over the Sphere in Las Vegas, with White revealing to THR that the production cost for this event exceeded $20 million.
“If you take what U2 did and multiply it by a million, that’s where we are,” he said.
Without a doubt, the grounds of the White House could establish a remarkable standard for event venues, a level seldom matched by any future sports events in the near future.
More recently, White was invited to serve on the board of directors at Meta by its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, who has developed a fondness for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
Trump additionally declared another function for the America 250 celebration, a nationwide televised competition titled “Patriot Games.” This event will see young athletes from all 50 states competing against one another. Trump stated that Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. would oversee the Patriot Games; however, further specifics such as the broadcasting platforms have yet to be disclosed.
