NCIS Suffers Shocking Drop on Paramount+

The most recent viewing statistics have been released, and it appears that Paramount+ viewers are momentarily halting their ongoing rewatch of the latest series. Surprisingly, the long-standing military police procedural has fallen out of the runner-up position in Paramount+’s Top 10 TV Shows list for the second time this week.

It’s worth noting that, as of today, NCIS has slipped from its usual second place position on Paramount+’s Top 10 TV Shows list in the U.S., moving to third. This is the first time since June 30 that this has happened, when SpongeBob SquarePants briefly took over the No. 2 spot from NCIS. While it’s not as significant a drop as some might anticipate, NCIS typically maintains its stronghold at the second position. Similarly, SpongeBob has been holding down the third spot. However, The Chi, the Showtime drama series, has seen a resurgence in interest, leaping five spots to secure the second place. Now everyone is curious to see if The Chi can also unseat Criminal Minds, which has held the top spot for quite some time.

The NCIS series, devised by Donald P. Bellisario, revolves around special agents responsible for probing crimes with military connections. Originally introduced on the legal drama series JAG in April 2003 through a two-part episode that served as a backdoor pilot, the main characters of the original show later appeared in NCIS when it debuted on CBS in September of the same year. For 18 seasons, Mark Harmon played the lead role in NCIS, portraying the beloved character NCIS Supervisory Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, who headed the Washington Navy Yard-based NCIS team in Washington, D.C.

At the beginning of Season 19, Gary Cole took over from the previous Supervisory Special Agent Alden Parker in NCIS. As is often the case with long-lasting procedural dramas, NCIS has experienced several cast changes throughout its 22 seasons. The current cast, as we move into Season 22, consists of Cole, Wilmer Valderrama playing Nick Torres, Katrina Law as Jessica Knight, Brian Dietzen as Jimmy Palmer, Diona Reasonover as Kasie Hines, Sean Murray as Timothy McGee, and Rocky Carroll as Leon Vance.

The NCISverse Remains Alive and Well

The success of NCIS has spawned several spinoffs: Los Angeles in 2009, New Orleans in 2014, Hawaii in 2021, Sydney in 2023, Origins in 2024, and Tony & Ziva in 2025. NCIS: New Orleans was the first spinoff to end its run, finishing after seven seasons in May 2021. NCIS: L.A. followed suit two years later, wrapping up a long 14-season stint in May 2023. Unfortunately, Hawaii didn’t have as much of a lasting impact and was cancelled after three seasons in 2024.

For the upcoming 2025-26 television season, all instalments of NCIS – including NCIS, NCIS: Sydney, and NCIS: Origins – have been renewed by CBS. The new seasons of NCIS and Origins are slated for a fall premiere, airing back-to-back on Thursdays. Unfortunately, NCIS: Sydney, which is produced in Australia, has yet to announce its return date. Additionally, the long-awaited NCIS spinoff, Tony & Ziva, will debut on Paramount+ on September 4th.

NCIS is available to stream on Paramount+.
