Looking back 14 years, I can’t help but reflect on how Suits subtly hinted at the eventual end of its spinoffs, Pearson and Suits LA. Debuting in 2011, Suits quickly became one of the most captivating legal dramas of its era. The show’s popularity skyrocketed when it found a home on Netflix, but its success wasn’t just a product of its streaming life – it was a hit from day one.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share my experience with the Suits spinoffs. The first one, Pearson, made its debut right before the original series ended, but unfortunately, it didn’t enjoy the same longevity as Suits and was only able to run for a single season. Fast forward six years, and another addition joined the Suits family – Suits LA. Much like its predecessor, Suits LA also managed to last just one season before NBC decided to pull the plug after 13 episodes.
Mike And Harvey’s First Scene Together Is What Sold Me On Suits
Harvey And Mike Were A Perfect Match
In the initial scene where Harvey and Mike appeared together on Suits, I was instantly captivated. The main characters of Suits crossed paths when Harvey needed a new associate, yet none of the Harvard Law School graduates waiting for an interview had what he sought. Remarkably, both Donna and Harvey found themselves drawn to Mike.
In their back-and-forth exchanges about law, it was evident they shared a remarkable connection. Although Mike wasn’t a lawyer, he brought an undercurrent of stress to the show, but his relationship with Harvey was the mainstay of the plotline. After Patrick J. Adams departed from Suits, the series lacked the unique charm it once possessed because nothing could replicate the bond between Mike and Harvey.
Neither Pearson Nor Suits LA Had Its Version Of Mike And Harvey’s Dynamic
Pearson And Suits LA Were Regular Lawyer Shows
Reflecting on the situation now, it’s hardly astonishing that neither Suits LA nor Pearson didn’t manage to match the enduring success of their origin series. The reason lies in the fact that these spin-off shows lacked a character duo similar to Mike and Harvey, who were instrumental in making Suits so captivating. It was evident once Mike departed from the original show that his unique chemistry with Harvey was integral to its success.
Jessica was one of the standout characters on the show, but Pearson lacked the spark that Suits had because it didn’t feature a character who kept Jessica challenged in the way Mike pushed Harvey. In essence, Suits LA might have benefited from learning from Pearson’s errors, but unfortunately, it experienced the same downfall.
Ted Black, despite being a strong character, couldn’t match up to Harvey, and he lacked a character like Mike Ross that was unique to him. The primary reason for the cancellation of both ‘Suits LA’ and ‘Pearson’ is that these spinoffs didn’t have two main characters who interacted in a way that generated mutual energy and chemistry, which was a key factor in the success of the original ‘Suits’.
