Additionally, they disclosed recent viewership statistics showing the significant growth of Japanese anime, transitioning from a once-niche market into a dominant force in global content production.

It’s been reported by Netflix that approximately half of their members, totaling over 150 million households and potentially 300 million viewers, now enjoy watching anime. In fact, the company has seen a significant surge in anime viewing on its platform over the past five years, with 2024 being a particularly noteworthy year as it saw a record-breaking 33 anime titles making it to Netflix’s Global Top 10 (Non-English) rankings. This is more than double the number of anime titles in the top rankings in 2021.

In 2024, it was disclosed that anime content was viewed more than a billion times worldwide, and approximately 80-90% of viewers chose to watch anime with dubbed dialogue. To cater to this demand, Netflix has started providing anime shows with audio and subtitles in up to 33 languages.

Kicking off the schedule for our streamer is “Sakamoto Days”, a thrilling action series about a hitman-turned-family man. Adapted from a popular manga, its first season was a global sensation, spending ten weeks in Netflix’s Top 10 and charting in a total of 54 countries like Japan, Korea, France, and Argentina. Fresh episodes will start airing from July 14.

A notable upcoming release is “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2,” which is the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2022 dystopian series by Studio Trigger, taking place in the harsh world of CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 video game. At Anime Expo, Netflix unveiled a first preview and fresh artwork for this continuation.

Fans of the adorable kawaii culture worldwide are in for a treat! On July 24, Netflix will debut the series titled “My Melody & Kuromi“.
