Pearl Jam Drummer Matt Cameron Leaves Band After 27 Years

Matt Cameron, Pearl Jam’s longest-serving drummer, has decided to part ways with the band, as confirmed by him and the group on their social media platforms earlier today.

After 27 amazing years, I have played my last drum set on the stage with Pearl Jam. I want to express my gratitude and appreciation to Jeff, Ed, Mike, and Stone for inviting me into their band in 1998 and providing me with an unforgettable experience full of friendships, creativity, challenges, and laughter. I am deeply thankful to the crew, staff, and fans around the world who have supported me throughout this incredible journey. Until next time, I want to express my heartfelt thanks.

Initially, Cameron played the drums for the iconic grunge group Soundgarden from 1986 to their disbandment in 1997 and again from 2010 until they reunited in 2017. Later, in 1998, he joined Pearl Jam, where he has been the drummer on every album since ‘Binaural’ in 2000. Cameron has twice been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for his contributions to both bands. In a tribute, Pearl Jam described him as “one of our earliest musical idols,” acknowledging his work with Soundgarden and Skin Yard. No information regarding a possible replacement was provided by Pearl Jam.

Pearl Jam acknowledged that Matt Cameron has been an exceptional and authentic force as a musician and drummer, driving the past 27 years of our live performances and studio sessions.
