Monster Hunter Wilds is currently facing a challenging situation: it’s being heavily criticized on Steam, and the sentiment within the community is predominantly unfavorable. At the moment, the majority of recent reviews are negative, with only about 12% of over 20,000 user reviews expressing positivity.
Capcom is facing challenges on two fronts: initially, the PC version’s performance has been less than stellar. Additionally, players have expressed dissatisfaction regarding the absence of substantial post-game content and challenge. Many beloved Monster Hunter mechanics have been simplified or eliminated to streamline gameplay and minimize friction.
As a gamer, I can tell you that things are gradually improving with title updates and fearsome, finely-tuned monsters. However, creating an engaging, replayable endgame for a Monster Hunter-style game requires time, especially when the foundation wasn’t already laid during launch. And unfortunately, based on those Steam reviews, performance issues still aren’t fully resolved yet.
Indeed, the community reaction has been so volatile that it became a significant topic during our most recent shareholders’ meeting, which took place on June 20th and the summaries for which were made public today. During the question-and-answer session with shareholders, Capcom was inquired about player feedback regarding Monster Hunter Rise on two separate occasions.
One shareholder expressed worries about the latest releases, mentioning inadequate content quantity and technical optimization problems. Can you tell us what the company’s plans are for dealing with these issues moving forward? As for another question, is it known whether the development team is aware of the feedback being posted on social media and online forums regarding Monster Hunter Wilds?
As a gamer, I’ve gotta say, Capcom kept it pretty straightforward in their responses. They promised us they’re listening to our feedback and are dedicated to making improvements in the upcoming updates. In other words, they’re taking our suggestions seriously and working hard to keep us happy gamers!
Although it’s an excellent Geiger counter for detecting danger, it seems there are issues to address since even social media feedback indicates potential problems, which has caught the attention of shareholders (who are asking about its performance on social media). This is especially interesting given Monster Hunter Wilds’ strong sales (as expected from a Monster Hunter game), but these concerns still need addressing.
According to SteamDB statistics, while the game Wilds is not always the most popular, particularly on consoles, it has seen a substantial increase in players following its recent update. For a brief period, however, Monster Hunter World managed to surpass Wilds in terms of concurrent players, with 24-hour peaks falling below 20,000. This is lower than the consistent playerbase Monster Hunter World typically enjoys.
As a novice to this series, I haven’t anything to compare Monster Hunter Rise against; however, there’s a reason I sampled Update 1 and then switched to another game shortly after. While I wouldn’t dismiss any title I invested 80 hours in as not worth the full price, the post-game content didn’t captivate me as much as I anticipated, considering the series’ acclaim.
The tasks at hand seemed insignificant and more like tedious chores rather than engaging challenges, given my commitment to two Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOs). Consequently, my time is quite limited for additional activities, making it a significant part of my daily routine. Regrettably, I found myself growing distracted.
It remains to be seen if Capcom can deliver on their promises regarding PC performance, given that they’ve faced significant challenges in this area. Since nearly 60% of their sales last year came from PC, it’s crucial for them to improve their ports to maintain these figures. As the saying goes, a PC gamer scorned by poor performance is not easily appeased—their wrath can be as fierce as hell itself.
