Abigail Spencer Boards ‘Best Medicine’ at Fox

Fox has found the female lead for its forthcoming series Best Medicine.

Actress Abigail Spencer, known for her roles in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Rectify’, will be appearing alongside Josh Charles in the new TV series, which is based on the popular British sitcom-drama ‘Doc Martin’. Spencer will portray Louisa Glasson, a teacher who resides in the tiny East Coast fishing town where Dr. Martin Best (Charles) settles after leaving his prestigious medical career in Boston.

The show Best Medicine is portrayed by Fox as a one-hour comedy centered around Martin, who unexpectedly switches his job from Boston to being a general practitioner in a town he visited during his childhood summers. As per the series’ synopsis, Martin’s brusque and somewhat rude demeanor clashes with the peculiar and dependent locals, particularly school teacher Louisa Glasson. However, resilience is deeply ingrained in the inhabitants of this small community, and it might be that the very people there are just what the doctor prescribed for our protagonist.

The manufacturing of “Best Medicine” TV show is scheduled to start towards the end of this summer, with a planned airing during the middle of the 2025-26 season on Fox’s television schedule.

The television series is being developed by Fox Entertainment Studios, with full ownership by Fox. Executive production is led by Liz Tuccillo, along with Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, and Rodney Ferrell from Propagate Content. Additionally, Mark Crowdy and Philippa Braithwaite, known for their work on ‘Doc Martin’, will also serve as executive producers.

Lately, Spencer has appeared in a recurring role on ABC’s show “911”. Her small-screen appearances also encompass “Mad Men”, “Timeless”, “Extended Family” and “Suits”. She is represented by United Talent Agency (UTA), Untitled Entertainment, and Hansen Jacobsen.
