As a long-time fan of Tom Selleck and the gritty reality portrayed in “Blue Bloods,” I was taken aback when I heard about a new TV project under the same name, but with an entirely different premise. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good twist, but this one seemed like a whole new ball game!
As a dedicated fan of “Blue Bloods,” I’m excitedly keeping an eye on the latest developments with CBS’ beloved drama. Despite rumors that it may come to an end in 2024, fans and even star Tom Selleck himself have expressed a strong desire for more episodes. They argue that the show’s impressive ratings on CBS and Paramount+ make a compelling case for its continuation.
Sure thing! Tom Selleck is known for his work in film and television, so the news of his involvement in a new project called “Blue Bloods” might require some persuasion. This isn’t because it’s a disappointing offer or a poor production, but rather because the title comes from a series of novels by Melissa de la Cruz that focus on something other than NYPD officers and lawyers – namely, vampires.
Paramount Digital Studios’ Awesomeness label acquired the rights to de la Cruz’s book series, as mentioned in Deadline. This means the project is now affiliated with CBS’ “Blue Bloods,” albeit requiring a possible title change to prevent confusion for viewers who have been following “Blue Bloods” and its Reagan family for over a decade.
In this adaptation of the story, the action unfolds in New York City where, unbeknownst to most, vampires secretly govern. When one of their immortal elite goes missing, the other rulers grow anxious, suspecting the emergence of an ancient breed of vampires. At the same time, the first human-vampire hybrid grapples with her identity after being banished from the Blue Bloods. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Sky accidentally discovers a malevolent force that could disrupt the entire vampire community.
Jacquie Walters, recognized for creating family-oriented content like “Just Add Magic” on Prime Video, the animated “Polly Pocket” series, and Disney+’s “Big Shot” with John Stamos, is working on an adaptation. Previously, she wrote a pilot based on Emily Bleeker’s novel “Wreckage” for ABC in approximately 2020, which Mark Webb directed. Walters will pen the first script and executive produce alongside Melissa de la Cruz.
I’m thrilled as a fan and an author to share my enthusiasm for the upcoming live-action adaptation of my “Blue Bloods” series. With nine novels in the canon, this is a project dear to my heart, and I can’t wait to see how the stories come to life on screen.
I’m thrilled to collaborate with an exceptional team at Awesomeness, Gotham, and 3Arts, along with talented writer Jacquie Walters, to breathe life into my cherished Blue Bloods series. I can’t wait to watch our shared vision come to life on the screen! Let’s go!!!
Melissa de la Cruz is a well-known name among TV viewers, perhaps not from her novels but from other projects. She wrote “The Beauchamp Family,” which was transformed into “Witches of East End” on Lifetime. Additionally, she has penned books linked to Disney’s “Descendants.”
Since the project is still at its beginning, it would be premature to add all our “ripe apples” to the basket just now. However, if the development progresses favorably, viewers might be able to watch this new “Blue Bloods” series using the same Paramount+ subscription they currently have for Tom Selleck’s show.
