As a seasoned Hallmark enthusiast with over a decade of binge-watching under my belt, I can confidently say that Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith’s latest collaboration in “Nelly Knows Mysteries: A Fatal Engagement” is a must-see for any devoted fan. While some might argue that their chemistry truly shines on the set of “When Calls The Heart,” it’s their work in the 2017 film “The Perfect Bride” that left an indelible mark on my heart.
Initially, I became acquainted with Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith through the show When Calls The Heart. However, I believe it wasn’t this series that truly showcased their endearing chemistry at its best. Instead, that honor goes to the 2017 film, The Perfect Bride, which also produced a sequel and attracted more viewers to the duo beyond their television series. Since then, they have collaborated on various projects, and there’s another upcoming Hallmark movie in the works for them. So, don’t hesitate, get excited!
Having grown up watching Hallmark movies, I can confidently say that Smith and Hutton are my favorite pairing. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their films always seem to capture the essence of Christmas in a way that no other duo can. While I understand that some may prefer Will Kemp and Lacey Chabert, for me, it’s all about the magic that Smith and Hutton bring to the screen. Their performances transport me back to simpler times, reminding me of the warmth and joy that comes with spending time with loved ones during the holiday season.
What excites me about Hutton and Smith reunions is how they often play pairs who seem a bit incongruous yet share fantastic chemistry. I’m eagerly awaiting their latest collaboration, as one of the main reasons for my anticipation lies in the fact that these talented actors will be departing from traditional romance and diving into Hallmark’s murder mystery territory instead.
Title for their upcoming film: “Nelly Solves Mysteries: A Deadly Romance”
It’s clear that he’ll realize she’s someone valuable to keep, even though she can be quite inquisitive and bothersome at times. You know, I’ve watched a few of those Hallmark mystery shows, and this situation seems similar. Plus, the recently released BTS clip strongly hints at this as well.

The upcoming movie will air on TV on August 23 at 9 p.m. ET in 2024, bringing the beloved couple back to your screens once more. Keep in mind that it hasn’t been an extended break since their last appearance; Season 11 of “When Calls The Heart” concluded at the end of June and production for Season 12 has already started. However, as “Downton Abbey” and similar productions have demonstrated, period dramas require considerable time to film.
As a long-time fan of cozy mystery series, I can’t help but feel excited about the prospect of another one coming our way from Hutton and Smith. Having spent countless hours immersed in the intricate plots and charming characters of shows like Aurora Teagarden and Mystery 101, I’ve come to cherish the escapism they offer. With so many murder mysteries being canceled by Hallmark in recent years, it’s refreshing to hear about a potential new addition to the genre. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Nelly Knows might just be the perfect fit for those of us who crave more mystery and suspense in our TV viewing. So, tune in later this month and let’s see if this latest offering lives up to the hype!
