A Law And Order: SVU Fan Went Off About The Show 'Going Woke.' Ice-T Did Not Hold Back

As a fan who has been following Law & Order: SVU since its early days, I can say that the show has undoubtedly evolved over the years, and not always for the better according to some viewers. However, it’s refreshing to see someone like Ice-T, who has been a constant presence on the show, remain unfazed by such criticisms. His blunt response to the “going woke” complaint shows his unwavering commitment to the show and its message.

When a TV show is successful enough to earn a long run, it’s inevitable that fans are going to look at how the most current episodes compare to earlier seasons. How have the characters developed as we’ve gotten to know them? How has the writing changed over time? As Law & Order: SVU’s 26th season prepares to debut on the 2024 TV schedule, one fan has a specific complaint about the crime procedural “going woke,” and longtime star Ice-T simply wasn’t having it.

Ice-T, known for his role as Fin Tutuola in the spinoff of “Law & Order” since its second season, has been busy with his 25th stint as a Special Victims Unit detective this summer, while many have been enjoying the Paris Olympics. The rapper/actor expressed this on a Twitter post, which prompted one viewer to express her dissatisfaction about the series’ recent seasons. The fan stated:

Did they write SVU back to normal yet? It started to go woke

SVU” for its content since it often tackles severe crimes. However, in another post, she clarified that a previous episode focused excessively on sensitive feelings and emphasized diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) and body shaming issues.

The conversation carried on in a back-and-forth manner, much like what you’d find in a comments section, but one individual refused to engage with any of it, and that was Ice-T. In response, the actor reshared Nicole T’s question, appending his own firm statement to it.

What the F is Woke? lol Like I give a Fuck.

Topical real-life matters have frequently been addressed on “Law & Order: SVU”, and given the significant shifts in the world since its 1999 debut, it’s to be expected that the show’s atmosphere has evolved throughout the years. Yet, Ice-T doesn’t appear overly concerned about the show’s new tone or criticism suggesting the content is too politically correct.

Fans of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit have always admired the actor Ice-T’s self-assuredness throughout his 25 years portraying Odafin Tutuola. Remarkably, even at 66 years old, he continues to flaunt his impressive physique. Impressive indeed!

Law & Order: SVU might not appeal to everyone, and it seems that even some former viewers may be losing interest in the series. However, Ice-T expressed earlier this year that he feels incredibly fortunate, considering the show provides a therapeutic experience for some viewers who have endured their own traumas. I suspect the gratitude he receives from these fans outweighs any negative feedback he might receive.

The 26th season of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” is set to debut at 9 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, October 3rd, on NBC. This follows the premiere of “Law & Order” Season 24 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on the same network.
