Over the weekend, many Disney World enthusiasts had a tough time as they bid farewell to the final public performances of Muppet*Vision 3D. This popular attraction has now been closed to visitors, making way for new attractions in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Disney World. Though some fans were disheartened by its departure, others chose to turn this occasion into a fun event.
A YouTuber friend of mine, Disney Dan, playfully teased the spectators at the Muppet*Vision 3D closing by donning a Monsters Inc. mask in the Grand Avenue district. According to him, the crowd was not pleased with his antics and he was given the “Boo” treatment in the park. Yet, as Dan highlights, receiving boos while wearing a Monsters Inc. mask doesn’t carry the same negative connotations.
Previously announced, the arrival of a fresh Monsters Inc. realm at Disney’s Hollywood Studios became official last year. Initially, fans were thrilled until further news revealed that the development would take place where the Muppet*Vision 3D once stood. This show was the culmination of the Muppets’ projects and marked the late Jim Henson’s final work in this field. As theme park attractions shut down, priceless art can vanish forever.
In simpler terms, Disney Dan often becomes a topic on theme park social media (DisTwitter) due to his humor that doesn’t always hit the mark as intended. However, this specific joke was more often met with laughter from those who understood it, even though it might appear harsh initially. It’s likely that most of those who booed Dan were also joking…or so it seems.
Given the passionate attachment many people have towards Muppet*Vision 3D’s closure, it might be assumed that those still present were genuinely irritated by someone seemingly mocking the attraction. Yet, despite a few individuals directing insults at Dan, the majority of reactions find him amusing instead.
Whenever a well-loved destination shuts down temporarily, there’s bound to be disappointment among visitors. They may also feel the need to bid farewell. This past weekend, Muppet*Vision 3D saw an influx of fans eager to catch one last showing before its closure, as it had been quite busy in years. Disney World has hinted at a strategy for keeping the film alive, although the particulars remain vague, and no definite information has been disclosed yet.
I’m just as disappointed as anyone else about the closure of Muppet*Vision, but I remain optimistic that it might find a way to continue. Truthfully, I can hardly wait for Monsters Inc. land to arrive at Disney’s Hollywood Studios; the Door coaster alone promises to be an electrifying new attraction in the park, and I believe the Muppets, similar to James Bond, will make their comeback. It’s been announced that early next year, the Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster will undergo a retheming, turning it into a ride themed around the Muppets.
