You’ll have to wait a bit longer for the sequel to “Ghost of Tsushima,” but in the meantime, Ubisoft is offering samurai enthusiasts an alternative with the release of their upcoming mainline “Assassin’s Creed” game titled “AC Shadows.
In exactly a week, the latest installment of Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released, featuring two new main characters: Naoe and the historical figure Yasuke, the renowned black samurai. A fresh cinematic trailer has been unveiled to give us a glimpse into their adventures.
‘Justice is Forged in Shadows’
The game will debut on March 20th, with a fresh narrative emphasis on the two main characters, Yasuke and Naoe. Here’s something interesting to explore!
In contrast to earlier series where players assumed the role of a purely fictional hero, Shadows introduces a fresh twist by allowing players to control not one but two characters. Remarkably, among these characters is a historical figure, the revered warrior Yasuke, who takes on a life-like form in this storyline.
Yasuke was a samurai who served under the mighty warlord Oda Nobunaga, also known as the Great Unifier during Japan’s feudal era. In this game, an original character named Naoe, with ties to the Brotherhood, summons him for redemption from past transgressions. Players have the option to alternate between these two characters in-game based on their preferred strategies when tackling missions.
How is Gameplay Different for Both Characters?

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the characters Yasuke and Naoe possess unique skill sets, enabling them to execute various tasks within missions differently.
Yasuke stands out as an impressive fighter, seemingly the stronger one between the duo. He’s capable of facing numerous opponents simultaneously using a diverse arsenal of weaponry.
Contrarily, Naoe leans towards the classic image of an assassin. Her role often involves sneaky tasks due to her skills like climbing walls silently, executing stealthy takedowns, and employing devices for enemy diversion.
In the game, players will encounter multiple tasks requiring them to evaluate situations. They’ll be faced with the decision of either launching a direct attack using Yasuke or opting for a stealthy approach with Naoe.
How Else Does Shadows Shake Up The Formula?

Over time, Assassin’s Creed games have developed, yet they’ve consistently retained certain core aspects that define their unique gameplay style. Shadows, however, seems poised to introduce some changes to this established formula.
In this game, information now plays a crucial role, and it’s up to the players to uncover hidden quests and surprises scattered across the map using spies. The developers aim to reward exploration, encouraging players to explore different locations to learn about their upcoming tasks rather than having specific mission markers directly shown on the map.
Similar to prior installments of the series, enthusiasts are anticipating that the game Shadows will offer an expansive open-world environment. Given Ubisoft’s reputation for excellence, players can expect the graphics to be nothing short of stunning as well.
Here’s the official description for AC Shadows:
Transform into both a deadly ninja assassin and a mighty legendary samurai, all while navigating a stunning open-world during tumultuous times.
“Switch seamlessly between two unlikely allies as you discover their common destiny.
Learn to harmonize different strategies, establish your ninja guild, personalize your hideaway, and bring about a fresh period in Japanese history.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on March 20.
