As a long-time fan of The Mummy franchise, I must say I’m thrilled to see it making a comeback! From the classic 1932 film to Brendan Fraser’s iconic trilogy, this series has always held a special place in my heart. And now, with Lee Cronin at the helm, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation that rivals my excitement for a new season of Stranger Things. I can only imagine what modern twists and terrors he’ll bring to this ageless evil.
A new film in The Mummy universe is officially in the works over at New Line.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new installment is scheduled for release on April 17, 2026 and will be directed by Lee Cronin, who previously worked on Evil Dead Rise. At this time, specific plot details are being kept secret, but fans of the franchise can anticipate Cronin bringing a fresh take on timeless evil to the film. As of now, no cast members have been announced.
Under the direction of Cronin’s Doppelgängers, the production companies Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, in collaboration with James Wan, Jason Blum, and John Keville, are preparing to bring this project to life. Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Macdara Kelleher will oversee the project as executive producers.
In 1932, the first movie under the title “The Mummy” was directed by Karl Freund. However, it wasn’t until the late ’90s to early ’00s that this film gained renewed popularity due to Brendan Fraser’s trilogy, which was released in 1999, 2001, and 2008. In an attempt to revive the franchise in 2017, a new version starring Tom Cruise was produced, but it fell short of both critical acclaim and commercial success. As of now, it remains uncertain whether these characters will appear in the upcoming film.
The new The Mummy film premieres April 17, 2026.
