It appeared that progress on the new Yellowstone spin-off shows had reached its maximum speed, but just as it began to slow slightly following the final half-season without Kevin Costner, fresh news suggests that there might be even more stories involving the Dutton family in the future, beyond the series featuring Beth and Rip starring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser.
CBS Is Reportedly Angling For A Yellowstone Spinoff
For now, treat this news with some skepticism, as it comes from a source tied to the ranch’s previous chef Gator. However, Puck is suggesting that CBS might be getting involved again in the Yellowstone saga. If the reports are true, CBS executives are said to be planning a new series focusing solely on Luke Grimes’ character, Kayce Dutton.
Currently, it’s uncertain whether the actor directly engaged in discussions with the network, or if the initial stages have been set in motion without him. However, it should be noted that the project is referred to as being in “pre-production,” which implies a level of planning beyond casual phone calls and emails.
Kayce’s Yellowstone Spinoff Will Reportedly Change Up the Format
As a devoted fan, I must say that the captivating series Yellowstone initially unfolded as a deeply serialized drama, with its narratives requiring the entirety of the show to fully unfurl. Remarkably, each spinoff has continued this trend, maintaining the same level of complexity and scope. The gripping saga of 1883 chronicled the Dutton family’s arduous journey across the country, led by James and Margaret. In contrast, 1923 provides a tense glimpse into the lives of Jacob and Cara, as well as their adventurous son Spencer, who traverses the globe. All in all, these tales are grand in scale and vast in scope.
It seems the Kayce Dutton series won’t follow a narrative similar to what you might expect, since it’s being categorized as a “procedural” drama. This typically means that the character played by Grimes, a former military veteran, will be engaged in a job involving individual cases, investigating different crimes in each episode. Instead of unfolding one continuous storyline, the series is likely to focus on separate cases from episode to episode.
CBS is a great place for drama procedurals to flourish, unless they unfortunately join the ranks of canceled TV shows. Given this, it’s no surprise that creating a new episode within the Yellowstone universe would be an appealing option. In fact, I can already envision Kayce appearing on shows like Fire Country or Tracker, sharing screen time with Max Thieriot or Justin Hartley.
One query left unaddressed in the report is if Kayce’s family will participate in this upcoming venture, likely they will given the events that transpired on Yellowstone. Although Kelsey Asbille and Brecken Merrill were not explicitly mentioned, it seems plausible that they would be involved in the new project, provided there are no scheduling conflicts.
