As a fervent admirer of Margaret Qualley‘s captivating performances and her unwavering dedication to challenging roles, I am utterly thrilled about her upcoming project, “Victorian Psycho.” This actress has had an extraordinary year, gracing the silver screen in three major films, and it seems 2025 will only add more accolades to her already impressive repertoire.
2024 has undeniably been a stellar year for me as an actress, with three significant films gracing the silver screen: Ethan Cohen’s “Drive Away Dolls,” Yorgos Lanthimos’ anthology film “Kinds of Kindness,” and Coralie Fargeat’s sophomore project, “The Substance.” In the latter, I had the privilege of portraying a more youthful, captivating interpretation of Demi Moore’s Elisabeth.
According to recent updates, the project initially unveiled in October is scheduled to be released by A24 and is slated to commence filming in March 2025.
The plot synopsis reads:
In 1858, a youthful, somewhat odd governess named Winifred Notty (Qualley) arrives at the isolated gothic mansion called Ensor House. Her duties encompass teaching the children proper etiquette and informing them about their family history, while concealing her potentially dangerous personality traits. As Winifred adjusts to life at Ensor House, staff members mysteriously start vanishing, and the estate owners grow increasingly suspicious that there might be something unusual about their new governess.
In this upcoming movie, Zachary Wigon will take the reins as director, having previously worked with Qualley on the 2022 film “Sanctuary,” a psychological thriller involving a man trying to break free from a dominatrix. The screenplay is penned by Virginia Feito, based on her upcoming book of the same name set for release in February 2025. Notably, Feito’s first novel, “Mrs. March,” published in 2021, was both critically acclaimed and commercially successful, with plans to adapt it into a major motion picture starring Elizabeth Moss.
Discussing his work titled “Victorian Psycho”, Feito mentioned, “At first, I didn’t plan to write a story set during the Victorian era, even though I’ve always admired the dark and mysterious literature from that time. However, out of nowhere, a voice emerged in my mind – it was witty, aggressive, and inappropriate – and I found myself compelled to follow this voice.
‘Victorian Psycho’ Will Be Produced by a “Horror Aficionado”
When I first heard about the movie “Victorian Psycho,” my excitement levels soared. Working with Zach Wigon once more is like discovering a hidden treasure, and I can hardly wait to immerse myself in the intricate, twisted universe he’s crafted. Similarly, Zach also shared his enthusiasm, expressing that collaborating with me on this project feels like receiving an extraordinary gift.
When I came across this extraordinary and indelible character named Winifred Notty, I immediately felt compelled to present her to cinema audiences. I’m absolutely ecstatic that the courageous Margaret Qualley will be breathing life into this intricate antihero. The screenplay penned by Virginia Feito is a daring amalgamation of psychodrama, satire, gore, and mystery. With horror enthusiast producer Dan Kagan and the backing of Anton and Anonymous, I can hardly wait to create ‘Victorian Psycho‘.
Movie producer Kagan played a key role in creating the 2024 blockbuster horror movie titled “Longlegs“. This chilling production was penned and helmed by Osgood Perkins, featuring an impressive cast led by Maika Monroe, Alicia Witt, and Nicolas Cage portraying the main antagonist. The film raked in an astounding $127 million at the worldwide box office.
