Despite Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz’s movie Back in Action staying on top of Netflix’s daily Top 10, closely followed by the horror sequel Scream VI, predicting the rest of the list can be tricky day by day. However, amidst the Minions and Trolls, a relatively new and under-the-radar film from A24 is leaving a significant impression on Netflix subscribers, much like Julia Louis-Dreyfuss’ impact.
Discussing the dramedy titled “You Hurt My Feelings,” which A24 partnered with towards the end of 2021 prior to its premiere in January 2023 at Sundance, and subsequently had a domestic theater release starting in May. Not surprisingly, given Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ involvement, critics have shown great interest in this production.
You’ve Injured My Emotions

Cast: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tobias Menzies, Michaela Watkins, Owen Teague, Arian Moayed, David Cross, Amber Tamblyn, Zach Cherry, Jeannie Berlin
Running Time: 93 minutes
Despite hurting my feelings, it has managed to achieve an impressive 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on a total of 218 reviews. This score would be more understandable if only a few reviews were considered, but the high rating remains even with such a large number of reviews. The audience rating is lower at 64%, which is typical for quieter movies.
A24’s productions might not immediately match the typical expectations, as they don’t feature terrifying creatures, complex sci-fi elements, provocatively dressed oddballs, or intense content that could be classified as hardcore, except perhaps in terms of its emotional depth. (For more about upcoming A24 projects, see our rundown.)
Julia Louis-Dreyfus and her director from the film “Enough Said”, Nicole Holofcener, reunited for the movie “You Hurt My Feelings”. However, this collaboration didn’t set box office records when it premiered over Memorial Day weekend in less than 1,000 cinemas. It grossed approximately $2 million during the four-day weekend and managed to make a total of $5.7 million.
However, a play’s success in theaters doesn’t necessarily impact a film’s performance once it enters Netflix’s collection, making it easily accessible to millions of viewers who may not frequent movie theaters focused on blockbuster releases. Currently, “You Hurt My Feelings” is holding its ground at the #9 spot, hopefully maintaining its popularity. Take a look at the entire list below.

It’s somewhat surprising that an adult-focused film like “You Hurt My Feelings” is garnering similar views as popular animated movies such as those featuring Poppy and Branch or Gru. However, the dramedy’s appeal seems strong enough to compete with global animation hits. Moreover, one of its improvised scenes was the funniest moment in cinema for at least one TopMob viewer in 2023.
It’s likely that fans, eager to discover more, will delve deeper into Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ filmography when she takes on a villainous role in Marvel’s Thunderbolts, as well as any other Marvel films she might be involved in that we’re not yet aware of.
