Right now, Bobby Deol is basking in the acclaim of Ek Badnaam Aashram Season 3 Part 2. After spending much of his career playing romantic leads, Deol has recently chosen to tackle intense, negative characters instead – a shift that’s been well-received by fans. In a recent chat, he acknowledged Prakash Jha for giving him the chance to play a negative role when others wouldn’t, but also conceded that he’s finding himself being pigeonholed in these roles.
As I step out of my familiar hero persona, I’ve found myself delving into intriguing roles lately. The character I played in Aashram as a controversial godman and the formidable antagonist in Animal have been quite a departure for me. In a recent chat with PTI, I shared that I am actively considering more such roles, as I continue to be offered challenging negative characters.
In a candid admission, Bobby Deol, known for his portrayal of antagonists in films such as Race 3, Love Hostel, and Kanguva, expressed enthusiasm about embracing varied and unusual characters beyond the negative roles he’s played thus far, finding them equally thrilling and demanding.
He credits filmmaker Prakash Jha for significantly changing people’s view of him, as demonstrated by his role as Baba Nirala in Aashram. The widely acclaimed series has returned for more, continuing with the second part of its third season.
Deol pondered over the transformation in his acting journey following his portrayal of negative characters. He admitted that this change had significantly impacted his life, as audiences started viewing him in a new light, appreciating his skill in bringing antagonists to life convincingly. Interestingly, at that point in his career, many doubted his capability to perform such roles, but filmmaker Prakash Jha was one who believed in his potential.
Nevertheless, Deol has acknowledged that he’s finding himself in a familiar predicament of being typecasted again. He openly shares his ambition to move beyond this stereotype, emphasizing that it’s less about craving leading roles and more about seeking opportunities to delve into a wide array of characters.
Regarding his ongoing roles, the actor revealed that the characters he’s playing are quite challenging for him because they step outside of his usual comfort zone. At first, he was uncertain whether to accept these roles due to their demanding nature, which necessitated a great deal of personal exertion on his part.
In an exciting turn of events, the long-awaited second part of Ek Badnaam Aashram Season 3 made its debut on Amazon MX Player on February 26, 2025.
As per the official summary, the newest episode finds justice being met as Baba ends up behind bars, while Pammi retakes her role in the Aashram. With Bhopa Swami stepping in as the new head, the series explores more complex themes like betrayal, revenge, and redemption.
