Currently, Bobby Deol is delighting in the launch of his crime-thriller series, Aashram Season 3, which debuted last week. The series is directed by Prakash Jha and Bobby Deol’s portrayal of Baba Nirala, a negative character, has become quite iconic. However, just before the show’s release, the actor famously known as “Animal” recalled experiencing a bout of vertigo.
During a recent chat with Filmfare, Bobby Deol was questioned if he still experiences apprehension prior to a new film’s release. In response, the actor revealed, “As it was my first time portraying an antagonist, I certainly felt anxious, just as I recall having a bout of dizziness while promoting the film due to my vertigo condition. I believe there was a lot at stake since I was unsure about how audiences would react to me playing such a character.
He continued to elaborate on his perspective, highlighting how those close to an actor can inadvertently influence them, and this vulnerability is a significant challenge for actors. He explained that when someone gets influenced, they lose faith in their abilities and are drawn towards choices that seem like simple solutions to them. Yet, the actor asserted that taking on the role of Baba Nirala was not a simple escape for him.
As he put it, it felt like embarking on a new career journey and picking an endeavor unfamiliar to him before. He admitted that he was apprehensive because while films are typically viewed alone, for a show, he was experiencing it alongside the viewers across India as everyone watched it simultaneously.
He mentioned that he hadn’t told his parents about joining Aashram, acknowledging their impact on personal decisions given societal perceptions of such daring figures. Nevertheless, Deol stressed that an actor portrays a character which may differ from who they truly are, but rather, a character that exists in reality.
To wrap things up, Deol shared his joy over the affection shown by his mother’s friends who were eager in anticipation of the upcoming season. He mentioned that their enthusiasm became palpable as soon as the new season was made official.
Directed by Prakash Jha, Aashram is currently streaming on MX Player.
