Acerbis is Bringing Back Claudio Salocchi’s “Palla” Armchair

The Italian furniture company Acerbis is delving into its past and resurrecting a chair design, originally created by Claudio Salocchi. This distinctive armchair embodies the forward-thinking aesthetic that was synonymous with radical design during that era.

The “Palla” chair debuted during the eighth installment of the Salone del Mobile in 1969. Consisting of two parts – the seat and footrest – its design is modular, allowing the components to be assembled like puzzle pieces. This versatility resulted in a striking, sculptural focal point that defied traditional furniture norms.

Salocchi is now widely admired for his talent in crafting designs that embodied a forward-thinking approach, with numerous pieces being praised for introducing innovation to common household items. The brand describes Palla as revolutionary in its design, pushing boundaries within traditional furniture design and exploring fresh ideas related to relaxation and social interaction. Starting from the shape of a sphere, Salocchi dismantles its structure to achieve a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetics.

Remember those timeless designs from the good old days that still manage to charm a modern audience? Well, guess what? Acerbis is giving us another chance to relive the glory days by reintroducing Salocchi’s Palla under their “Acerbis Remasters” collection. Can’t wait to get my hands on it!

The authentic shape of the Palla remains unchanged, ensuring its consistent size upon arrival. For the foundation, both a stationary and rotating variant are available, with a variety of fabric choices to choose from.

At this year’s Salone del Mobile furniture fair, Palla will make a comeback, showcasing their latest creations at the Acerbis booth. Additionally, designers Philippe Malouin, Olimpia Zagnoli, Francesco Meda, and David Lopez Quincoces – who are the brand’s artistic directors – will also be presenting new work there.

The Milan Design Week begins this weekend, running from April 8 through April 13, during which the Salone del Mobile will take place.
