As a movie enthusiast, I’ve been thoroughly impressed with Netflix’s recent foray into the action genre, with blockbusters such as “Rebel Ridge” and “Carry-On” solidifying their reputation as a go-to streaming service for adrenaline junkies like myself. However, their latest offering in this genre might not be quite as universally acclaimed as Aaron Pierre’s “Revenge Thriller” or Taron Egerton’s “Christmas Adventure.” In the lead role is none other than former Disney actor and beloved figure from “Big Daddy,”
, who stars in the intense action flick titled “Aftermath“. This film follows the story of a war veteran struggling with PTSD, who finds himself being held captive on Boston’s Tobin Memorial Bridge by a group of ex-military revolutionists. It seems they may have made a classic mistake in action movie-making.
Following its release on Netflix on February 10, 2025, the action-packed B-movie “Aftermath” is set to arrive. This delightful flick is the brainchild of director Patrick Lussier, who has previously worked on movies such as the Nicholas Cage-led dark comedy action film “Drive Angry,” the slasher movie “My Bloody Valentine,” and the TV series for “The Purge.” The script was written by Nathan Graham Davis. The talented cast includes Mason Gooding (from “Scream”), Dichen Lachman (“Jurassic World Dominion”), Megan Stott (“Yes Day”), Ashley Pynn (“Mean Girls”), Dylan Sprouse (“The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Beautiful Wedding”), and more. For a detailed look at the plot of “Aftermath,” check out the official synopsis provided below.
Stuck on the Tobin Bridge in Boston following an explosion, a previous member of the Army Rangers employs his top-tier military skills to rescue his sibling and other captives from a band of disgruntled ex-military contractors, headed by a mentally unstable war offender.
Reviews Favorably Compare ‘Aftermath’ to a Bruce Willis Action Classic
As a film aficionado, if you’re seeking a gripping B-movie action flick that might just rival the greatness of Die Hard, Aftermath could be your perfect match. Delving into Letterboxd for some enlightenment, it appears that numerous reviews liken this Dylan Sprouse-led thriller to the legendary action movie. User Nicholas G, for instance, describes it as “an under-the-radar Die Hard-esque chamber action film that brims with analog action.” He goes on to say, “It’s a nail-biting ride that shares similarities with the book, Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp, which the 1987 film was based on. In this movie, the Bruce Willis character is grappling with war veteran PTSD and they are dealing with real political terrorists. It starts off at a breakneck pace and maintains that level of intensity throughout.
In simpler terms, Nicholas Kuhn says, “This movie has aspects similar to other action films like Die Hard, but it also offers a storyline about military contractors and government corruption, which seems quite plausible based on what I know. The special effects aren’t bad for a lower budget action film, and it has an appealing quality to it. When it’s available for streaming (hopefully), it could do well. It’s definitely worth watching!”
On the other hand, rossboyask describes it as, “An entertaining action movie that performs better than expected, considering its concept. It’s amusing in parts and visually impressive.
Once again, Aftermath is all set to land on Netflix on February 10, 2025.
