Speculation is growing that a revamped version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater could be on its way, as clues point towards a collaboration between Activision and Microsoft (Xbox) to resurrect another fan-favorite installment from this popular skateboarding franchise.
In a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club podcast, skateboarder Tyshawn Jones made an exciting revelation. He mentioned offhandedly that he will be featured in an upcoming Tony Hawk video game, saying, “I’ll be in the new Tony Hawk game they’re remastering, so it should be coming out soon.
Despite being too young when the originals were released, Jones found a spot in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2. This appearance hints that the new project may reintroduce classic elements while modernizing the list of playable skaters.
This aligns with statements made by Tony Hawk previously. Last year, on the occasion of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater’s 25th anniversary, Tony Hawk himself hinted through social media that there might still be more to come for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.
In a later interview on Mythical Kitchen, Hawk revealed that he’d been talking with Activision about a potential new venture, but he wasn’t allowed to share details because of contractual obligations. Nevertheless, he hinted that whatever was coming up would be exciting and worth anticipating.
Over time, the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series has experienced its ups and downs. The re-imagining of the initial two games in 2020 was a significant triumph. Unfortunately, reports suggest that a remaster for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 were abandoned following Vicarious Visions, the studio behind the first reboot, being absorbed into Blizzard Entertainment.
If recent gossip is accurate, Activision could be on track to restart the project, potentially under new leadership.
It’s unclear if we’re getting a remastered Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 or something new, but what is certain is that anticipation is growing for the upcoming installment in the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series.
