Ryan Reynolds is currently one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood, a status largely due to his successful portrayal of Deadpool in films like “Deadpool” and the upcoming “Deadpool & Wolverine” (2024), which earned over $1.3 billion worldwide at the box office. Reynolds embodies the character perfectly, and his carefree demeanor translates well to other action-comedies such as “Free Guy” and “The Hitman’s Bodyguard.” Moreover, his amusing bloopers are sure to make you appreciate him even more.
Just like any entertainer, there are those who aren’t fond of Reynolds’ humor, even among his fellow industry professionals. For some, it boils down to not particularly enjoying his films. Others who have collaborated with him in the past have shared less-than-favorable experiences. However, it’s worth mentioning that for some, it seems old grudges may have been put aside.
Even if you possess the same charisma as Ryan Reynolds, it’s impossible to win over everyone’s affection. At some stage in his career, there have been moments when others didn’t find his antics amusing.
T.J Miller
Initially, T.J. Miller appeared to be on the path to becoming the next Ryan Reynolds, appearing in comedies like “Silicon Valley” and action films such as “Transformers: Age of Extinction”. He even shared the screen with Reynolds as Weasel in the initial two “Deadpool” movies, which seemed promising. However, Miller’s fortunes took a turn for the worse in 2016 when he was arrested for assaulting an Uber driver, and later faced allegations of sexual assault. Consequently, his career experienced a significant decline, and he did not reprise his role as Weasel in “Deadpool & Wolverine”.
As a gamer putting down my controller, I recall feeling betrayed by Miller when he mentioned during an episode of “The Adam Carolla Show” in 2022 that he wouldn’t collaborate with Reynolds again. He called Reynolds “horrifically mean,” and it reminded me of a time when Reynolds said something like, “You know what’s great about you, Weasel? You do just enough exposition to make it funny, then we can get back to the real game.” Well, that beef seems ancient history now. Fast forward to 2022, Miller joined the “Jim Norton & Sam Roberts Show” and shared that it was nice of Reynolds to reach out on the airwaves and acknowledge our disagreement. We quickly resolved the issue.
Following the triumph of “Deadpool & Wolverine”, Miller himself expressed a willingness to return for “Deadpool 4” if Reynolds extended the invitation. However, such an occurrence appears rather unlikely at this point.
Justin Baldoni
In a surprising turn of events, it was hardly foreseeable that the film “It Ends With Us” would become the most sensational entertainment news story of 2024 and 2025. The crux of the matter lies in Blake Lively’s accusations of sexual harassment against her co-star and director, Justin Baldoni, during the movie’s production. In response, Baldoni filed a countersuit against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds. However, US Weekly acquired court documents indicating that Reynolds may not be able to escape involvement in this case. The legal papers suggest that Reynolds is considered an essential part of this case due to both his direct actions and his role as a co-conspirator, according to Baldoni’s legal team, who claim that Reynolds actively helped tarnish Baldoni’s reputation alongside Lively.
In an unexpected twist from this court case, Baldoni’s legal representatives claim that the character of Nicepool in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” portrayed by Reynolds, was intended to satirize Baldoni as a pretender to feminism. At one instance, Nicepool makes a comment about Ladypool’s (Lively) body shortly after childbirth, and when Deadpool suggests that it might not be appropriate, Nicepool retorts, “That’s alright, I identify as a feminist.” Baldoni’s team suggests this was meant as a jab at Lively during their strained relationship with Baldoni.
It’s surprising how a seemingly insignificant character has turned out to be crucial in a significant trial. This story is bound to remain in the headlines, given that Lively and Baldoni have their hearings scheduled for March 9, 2026.
Wesley Snipes
In the movie “Deadpool & Wolverine,” there’s a scene where Blade (played by Wesley Snipes) says to Deadpool, “I don’t take kindly to you.” To which Deadpool replies, “You never did.” This line is a clever reference to the well-known rivalry between Reynolds and Snipes, who previously worked together in “Blade Trinity.” It was almost astonishing that these two managed to share screen space again.
In 2004, Ryan Reynolds shared with IGN his experience of having a contrasting comedic acting style compared to Wesley Snipes’ method approach in the movie “Blade: Trinity”. Reynolds recalled feeling so relaxed during filming that he thought Snipes disliked him, saying, “I swear to God, I didn’t even realize the cameras were rolling anymore and I said, ‘He hates me, doesn’t he?’ And [Jessica Biel] said, ‘Yeah.'” Additionally, an unidentified source alleged that Snipes referred to Reynolds as a racial slur during production of “Blade: Trinity”, though this has never been verified.
After reprising his role as Blade in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Snipes confessed to Entertainment Weekly that he had actually found Reynolds irritating during their initial collaboration. “A lot of the things he did back then just didn’t match my sense of humor,” Snipes explained. “I don’t resonate with that style. So I thought, ‘Well, it’s a bit too much for me.'” The intriguing point now is, if “Blade 4” ever materializes, would Snipes consider inviting Reynolds to reprise his role as Hannibal King?
Martha Stewart
Martha Stewart is primarily recognized for her work on television rather than as an actor, but she has demonstrated acting skills in various roles such as in the movies “Bad Moms,” “Pixels,” and several episodes of “2 Broke Girls.” While these roles were portrayals of herself, they still add up to her acting experience according to our perspective.
2024 saw Stewart on the “Rent Free” game show. Here, she needed to guess which celebrities her fellow contestants would prefer spending time with. Despite not being a fan herself, she speculated Ryan Reynolds might be included in the list. She stated, “He’s an excellent actor, capable of delivering humor through his roles, but he isn’t naturally funny. Maybe he can regain that comedic charm.” Interestingly enough, Reynolds turned out to be her neighbor, leading some to suggest this comment was a friendly jest aimed at Reynolds’ public image.
I hopped onto the platform, once called Twitter, to show off my humor side by saying, “I’d have to disagree with her, but I gave it a shot one time. This lady is surprisingly agile. She managed to catch up after a mile or so.” Among all the celebrity squabbles I’ve been involved in throughout the years, this one certainly feels the least intense. I mean, who hasn’t had a minor spat with their neighbor at some point?
Rebecca Ferguson
During a 2024 interview for “Dune: Part Two”, Rebecca Ferguson sparked buzz on social media by sharing stories about a high-profile actor. In a conversation with the “Reign with Josh Smith” podcast, she remembered an altercation where this peer berated her, saying, “You claim to be an actress? This is what I have to work with?” Initially, Ferguson found herself hesitant due to the individual’s seniority on set, but eventually asserted herself and opted to act facing this person’s back to complete filming.
Investigators quickly delved into unmasking the grumpy actor causing trouble, and one prominent guess is Hugh Grant, who collaborated with Ferguson in “Florence Foster Jenkins.” Notably, Grant has a reputation for being rather cranky on film sets. However, it’s important to remember that there are numerous A-list actors like Michael Fassbender, Dwayne Johnson, and Ryan Reynolds who might have had conflicts with Ferguson as well.
In a somewhat speculative twist, Ferguson co-starred with Reynolds in the 2017 movie “Life.” Although Jake Gyllenhaal was the main actor, some online speculation suggested that it might have been him who gave Ferguson a tough time. However, it’s also plausible that Ferguson was referring to another well-known actor. The idea that Hugh Grant might have been the culprit gained some traction, but technically, Meryl Streep should have held the top spot on the call sheet due to her role as Florence. So, while Reynolds is still a possible suspect, it’s yet to be confirmed who was unkind to Ferguson. The mystery remains unsolved for now.
Gerard Butler
Gerard Butler and Ryan Reynolds have never collaborated on a project, and it appears their paths may not cross in the future given that Butler seems uninterested in Reynolds’ type of action-comedy films. During an interview with Unilad in 2021 to promote his film “Copshop,” Butler was asked about Ryan Reynolds’ movie “Free Guy” which was released around the same time. Both films share some similarities as they explore themes related to free will through a video game lens, but Butler responded, “I’m not familiar with ‘Free Guy.'” Upon learning it was a Ryan Reynolds film, he added, “Oh no, is that… I don’t usually watch Ryan Reynolds movies.
Unlike some other sources, it was more accurate to say Butler didn’t criticize Reynolds; instead, he simply expressed that Reynolds’ movies aren’t his preferred style. This statement caused a stir, prompting Reynolds to react on social media in a very gracious manner. On Instagram, Reynolds shared the story and posted this message: “Amazing, Gerard Butler doesn’t know what ‘Free Guy’ is! Additionally, it’s astounding that threats to democracy have never been higher. Blake and I will match your donations to the American Civil Liberties Union and National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Turning clickbait into a chance to raise money for good causes? Good on you, Reynolds.
Matthew Perry
In June 2023, prior to Matthew Perry’s untimely death at age 54, a reported source spoke with RadarOnline about the supposed resentment felt by Perry towards Ryan Reynolds. The allegation was that Perry was upset because Reynolds supposedly mimicked his character and delivery, a fact that left Perry bitter as he believed Reynolds never acknowledged it publicly. However, this information should be approached with skepticism.
Just like Perry, I too started my acting journey on a sitcom called “Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place,” later known as “Two Guys and a Girl.” This show premiered on ABC back in 1998 and ran for an impressive four seasons. While “Friends” debuted earlier in 1994, according to certain sources, Perry alleges that I took inspiration from his line delivery and overall character portrayal for Chandler Bing, which significantly impacted the trajectory of my comedic career.
Perry never responded directly to the unidentified accusations, and Reynolds has yet to address the allegations. Furthermore, it’s worth noting that “Friends” shares some similarities with the 1993 Fox sitcom “Living Single,” as Chandler’s sarcastic character bears a resemblance to Kyle Barker (played by T.C. Carson). The entertainment industry often borrows ideas, so this rumored dispute seems inconsequential.
Matthew Lawrence
In the 1990s, much like many others aspiring actors, Ryan Reynolds was striving for his big break. While “Two Guys and a Girl” gave him some recognition, he continued to take roles in low-budget productions such as the direct-to-video horror movie “Boltneck.” In this film, he portrayed a creature reminiscent of Frankenstein’s monster created by the character Frank Stein, played by Matthew Lawrence. Looking back, Lawrence would comment on Reynolds not being the most pleasant individual to work with during that period.
On the “Brotherly Love Podcast” in February 2025, Lawrence, joined by his brothers Andrew and Joey, discussed an interesting incident involving Ryan Reynolds. Apparently, the production team had a tough time with Reynolds because he was attempting a poor imitation of Jim Carrey, which wasn’t what they desired. However, it seems that this situation caused more problems for the crew rather than Lawrence himself, as he appeared quite content with Reynolds’ success in the industry. Lawrence ended by saying, “I don’t feel angry at Ryan, per se, because he stayed true to his authentic self, and honestly, he was trying to emulate ‘Deadpool.’ It appears that Reynolds didn’t win many allies on the set of “Boltneck.
Kangana Ranaut
Over time, Ryan Reynolds has managed to ruffle some feathers in Hollywood, and in 2021, he also attracted criticism from the Bollywood industry. While promoting “Free Guy,” Reynolds, through 20th Century Studios, released a video aimed at promoting the film in India. In the video, he humorously pointed out that there’s plenty of action, dancing, and romance in the movie, and jokingly admitted that Hollywood is indeed imitating Bollywood. Despite its playful nature, this remark caught the attention of Bollywood actress and Indian politician Kangana Ranaut.
Ranaut reshared Reynolds’ statement on her Instagram, accompanied by the caption, “Trying to snatch our attention…”. Ranaut has been outspoken about this matter, advocating for increased investment in Indian entertainment instead of allowing Hollywood films (dubbed into local languages) to overshadow domestic productions in cinemas. During a press conference, as reported in another piece by Indian Express, she stated, “We don’t value each other enough and prefer watching dubbed versions of ‘The Lion King’ or ‘The Jungle Book’. However, we are reluctant to give a chance to a dubbed Malayalam film. This approach is not beneficial for us. We should prioritize our people and our industry.
Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds were wed from 2008 to 2011. After announcing their divorce, they seemed to maintain a friendly relationship, with Johansson expressing in Cosmopolitan that “when something feels right, you should do it.” She also mentioned her belief in instinct, stating that getting married was the correct decision because it felt natural. Despite the passage of time, some fans perceived one of her statements as a hidden jab at Reynolds. However, their amicable interactions continued even after Reynolds tied the knot with Blake Lively and Johansson wed Colin Jost from “Saturday Night Live.
In 2016, she spoke with Cosmo once more (through E! News), discussing the practicalities of two actors maintaining a romantic relationship. She noted that there needs to be a genuine comprehension of how to divide your time, especially when both individuals’ careers are thriving simultaneously. Even if one person is more successful than the other, this can also create difficulties and perhaps foster competition.
This statement seems to imply that Reynolds (or possibly another former partner) may have felt envious about Johansson’s professional success. However, it’s challenging to come to definitive conclusions given the ambiguity of the statement. It’s worth mentioning that Johansson is set to make her directorial debut with “Eleanor the Great,” a project funded by Wayfarer Studios, which Justin Baldoni co-founded. Interestingly, Baldoni is currently involved in a lawsuit with Reynolds and Lively. When Vanity Fair raised this topic during an interview, Johansson simply laughed and commented, “They were extremely supportive throughout the process. However, yes, it’s quite coincidental timing.
