ACU and Jahan Loh Present Immersive Art Exhibition 'The Fookie Hall'

As a connoisseur of art who has traversed the globe from the vibrant streets of Singapore to the bustling metropolis of Chengdu, I must say that Jahan Loh’s “The Fookie Hall” at MEW Art & Culture Space is an absolute visual feast. The harmonious blend of contemporary art and traditional Chinese elements is nothing short of enchanting.

Singaporean contemporary artist Jahan Loh has debuted “The Fookie Hall,” an innovative art experience, at Chengdu’s MEW Art & Culture Space. This event is brought to you by the Shanghai-based retailer, ACU, and is available for a brief period only.

The Fookie Hall, as the artist boasts, is a “rich banquet for everyone,” blending modern art with classic Chinese motifs. The title of this exhibition is a humorous take on “福气” (pronounced fúqi), which means blessings in Chinese. To further explore the theme through the five auspicious Chinese characters – fortune, prosperity, longevity, happiness, and wealth – Loh carefully arranged five distinct sections for the exhibition, providing unique experiences within each part.

Representing good fortune, the “福” Pavilion offers a tranquil space for reflection, congregation, and to absorb their blessings. Over in the room dedicated to Wealth, visitors can delve into traditional art forms like woodblock printing. The interior design of the Tea Shop section exudes a contemporary temple ambiance, serving an array of herbal brews centered around themes of longevity and happiness.

In this showcase, Jahan Loh’s “Golden Chamber” reappears, adorned with a vast LED screen displaying an endless stream of virtual gold bars, and furnished with inflatable replicas. This installation was initially unveiled during the Live Long & Prosper exhibition at ACU last November.

At The Fookie Shop, you’ll discover an array of merchandise and exclusive items from ACU and Jahan Loh. Peek into Jahan Loh’s “The Fookie Hall” in the gallery above; the exhibition is open for viewing until October 20, 2024.
