Happy Gilmore 2 Is Now Filming for Netflix
As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that this year, Netflix greenlit a long-awaited sequel to the classic comedy “Happy Gilmore,” with Adam Sandler reprising his iconic role and co-writing the script alongside Tim Herlihy. In this new installment, Sandler will team up once more with Kyle Newacheck, who directed the recent hit “Murder Mystery.” The sequel is set to bring back fan favorites like Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin and Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit. Joining the cast are Nick Swardson from “Just Go with It,” Benny Safdie from “Oppenheimer,” Bad Bunny from “Bullet Train,” Margaret Qualley from “The Substance,” and NFL star Travis Kelce, who’s currently dating Taylor Swift. Regrettably, some beloved cast members, including Bob Barker, Carl Weathers, and Joe Flaherty, are no longer with us. However, Sandler has assured us that “Happy Gilmore 2” will honor their legacies, as the actor expressed, “somehow they’ll be involved.
Details about the plot for “Happy Gilmore 2” are yet undisclosed, but it’s been confirmed by returning star Julie Bowen that the sequel will incorporate flashback scenes. Through the use of de-aging technology, the actors will be shown as they were in the early days of Happy Gilmore. Julie Bowen shared this information with Collider.
This production process is quite unusual. Although it’s not a secret, since they’re using flashbacks, they need to dress me in my old hairstyle and clothes from back then, which aren’t my favorites. Still, it’s exciting because they’ll digitally de-age me, something I’ve never experienced before. I find myself saying, ‘I’m really looking forward to seeing how that turns out.’ There are many fascinating aspects to this project. Working with Adam [Sandler] and Chris [McDonald] again, as well as some of the same crew members, makes it even more enjoyable.
