These days, it’s hard to overlook the popularity of the adidas Adizero line. While fashion debates which among retro Sambas, Gazelles, or Spezials is trending right now, the performance-focused Adizero is gaining traction due to the rise of running clubs, marathons, and partnerships with figures like Bad Bunny and Pharrell Williams. Despite all the buzz surrounding the Adizero brand spreading into sports such as football, basketball, tennis, and baseball, it was noticeably missing from golf. However, that’s changing now.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got to say, the freshly unveiled Adizero ZG by adidas Golf has certainly left its unique signature on their franchise, which made its debut back in 2008. If you’re in the know about adidas Golf, you’d recognize the ‘ZG’ tag from the series that was sported by Collin Morikawa on tour more recently. Given the featherweight design of that model, adidas chose to blend it with Adizero, carrying forward the advancement they started on the ZG line in 2021 while upholding the legacy of one of adidas’ key brands.
For Masun Denison, the director of footwear at adidas Golf, launching a new shoe design was not merely about creating an appealing title. It was all about blending the finest attributes from existing models and tailoring the final product to suit the needs of top-tier athletes. In particular, adidas ambassador Ludvig Aberg, one of the rapidly rising stars in global golf, was a key figure in gathering input for this new design.

Denison explained that while it would have been fantastic to create a running shoe-like lightweight footwear, it wouldn’t provide enough stability for golf. Instead, they needed to ensure the design was rooted in golf while maintaining a lightweight feel that made sense for the sport. In simpler terms, he likes to say it’s about achieving the right balance of lightness and functionality in golf shoes.
In Denison’s opinion, golfers stand to benefit significantly from using a lighter shoe design. However, traction is typically the top priority for many when considering whether to opt for spikeless shoes. Today, the market is overflowing with casual spikeless models inspired by classic shapes, with Adidas being one of the brands leading this trend by consistently releasing new color options for its Originals series. Although these styles are appealing, they may not be suitable for competitive play. This is where Adidas sees the Adizero ZG coming in handy. It’s a performance spikeless shoe designed specifically for tournaments.
As a gamer, I find that when each step feels lighter on my feet and I get a bit of bounce back from my shoes, it allows me to last longer in my gaming sessions, enabling me to play more rounds.
According to Denison, the reason people choose this shoe is because they desire a more athletic feel, something akin to a running shoe, with a springy sensation on their foot and ultimate comfort. The shoe comes in an initial release of hero white, black, and red colorways for both men and women, available in laced and BOA versions. The team’s early feedback indicates high praise for the shoe’s exceptional grip, attributable to the aggressive perimeter lugs that flex and rebound for support during walking. Similarly, the responsive torsion bar is commended for its performance.
What we find in customer feedback is that after 18 holes on the golf course, comfort for your feet matters. If a pair of shoes reduces weight with each stride and provides some rebound, it not only allows you to play more rounds but also improves your overall experience on the course.
The Adizero ZG will be available for purchase via adidas.com on January 31.
