Aesop Maps a New Sensory Terrain With ‘The Second Skin’ at Salone del Mobile

This year at Salone del Mobile Milano, I’ve had the captivating experience of stepping into Aesop’s immersive installation titled “The Second Skin.” Located within the historic Chiesa del Carmine, this sensory journey redefines skin as a tangible barrier and a metaphorical concept, mirroring Aesop’s ongoing fascination with the connection between our bodies, space, and tradition.

In this area, guests are invited to partake in a collective self-care journey. Along the room, there are elegantly designed hand basins, transforming the routine of washing hands into a calming and group activity. At the center of the courtyard, an impressive 16-meter table, skillfully crafted by Sebastian Cox, stands tall. This piece, made from Cedar of Lebanon, emits a cozy, woody scent similar to Aesop’s Eleos collection. Designed to accommodate 50 individuals, the table invites people to slow down and explore Aesop’s products through their scents and textures.

In a tranquil, adjacent space, Aesop presents the Capsule of Respite – a serene sanctuary carefully decorated with unique 20th-century Italian furniture from the design gallery Morentz. Guests are cordially invited to enjoy soothing hand and arm massages, showcasing Aesop’s Eleos line in a calming environment that emphasizes sensory experiences.

At this year’s Salone del Mobile, Aesop is making its second appearance and serving as the event’s Sensory Patron for the first time. The installation will be showcased until April 13th. If you’d like to prolong your experience, Aesop’s Brera location – conveniently located nearby – welcomes visitors all year round to immerse themselves in its thoughtfully designed space and fragrant atmosphere.
