After 15 years, Elden Ring Nightreign introduces a FromSoftware first: you can stab a dude with an arrow like you’re Legolas

In a fresh twist for contemporary FromSoftware games, Elden Ring Nightreign doesn’t merely recycle previous bosses; instead, it introduces an innovative feature – the capability to deliver a critical strike against a stunned enemy using a bow and arrow.

In FromSoftware’s games, you can inflict heavy damage on enemies by momentarily off-balancing them and then moving in for a powerful strike called a riposte, typically using melee weapons. Interestingly, the developers consider an arrow to function similarly to a short spear, allowing you to perform this maneuver with it as well.

In a Twitter post, the streamer JMnThem shares a video where they demonstrate a novel move against Morgott, an enemy who can suddenly attack during Nightreign’s randomized events. In the heat of the action, they unintentionally used a bow and arrow instead of a melee weapon while initiating an attack. Since the attack command was already inputted, they couldn’t correct their mistake. Fortunately, it turned out to be a fortunate blunder as they would have been in trouble had they used a melee weapon. Their surprise is understandable if you consider that the bow and arrow attack would typically connect differently compared to a dagger or sword attack.

They slow down the video they post for a closer look, revealing that an arrow is aimed at Morgott’s right hand and thrust directly into him to complete the strike – quite reminiscent of Legolas! I’m thrilled since this could mean I may finally have an excuse to employ bows in Nightreign.

Additionally, JMnThem mentions that both Whips and Shields can counterattack and perform backstabs in this game. So, should you have either of these items handy when an enemy is stunned, move in swiftly to inflict some harm.
