As a dedicated fan who has been riding this emotional rollercoaster with 9-1-1: Lone Star since its debut, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and apprehension as we approach the final episodes. The latest twist in Carlos’ storyline, with the revelation that Campbell might be involved in his father’s murder, has taken the tension to a whole new level. I mean, who would have thought that the “very special chemistry” between these two characters would lead to such an intense cliffhanger?
Spoilers ahead for Episode 8 of 9-1-1: Lone Star‘s final season, called “The Quiet Ones.”
Over the recent episodes of 9-1-1: Lone Star, airing in the 2024 TV lineup, the narrative has primarily revolved around the character Tommy, who was diagnosed with and underwent surgery for breast cancer. The firehouse crew went above and beyond to secure the necessary funds for her treatment, achieving almost complete success in “The Quiet Ones.” However, the climactic storyline of the hour centered on Carlos, as he continued his investigation into his father’s murder. Working with an informant, Carlos managed to extract information from him just before the man succumbed to injuries. The dying informant mentioned someone who Gabriel Reyes had been wary of: “Ranger Campbell.
And dang it, I just can’t believe that there are only four episodes left to resolve everything!
The Latest Complication For Carlos
In essence, while “The Quiet Ones” doesn’t directly accuse Campbell of causing Gabriel’s death, the dying character Nestor didn’t seem to have a reason to deceive Carlos. As per the Confidential Informant (CI), Gabriel had cautioned Nestor about potential betrayal due to fear of being labeled as an informant. Unfortunately, Nestor passed away before he could provide more details, but he did tell Carlos that Gabriel had pointed the finger at Campbell.
It’s clear that Carlos appears to trust Nestor, since he stated that the dying man hadn’t confessed when Campbell inquired. Who would have thought such a twist would happen after the showrunner hinted at their “exceptional camaraderie” during Season 5? The promo for the approaching fall finale suggests that Carlos believes it was Campbell who committed the crime, and he might even be ready to sacrifice himself before the investigation concludes. Here’s another perspective:
I’m not ready to believe that everything is as it seems from the promo, but it does look like this will be a doozy of an episode to end 2024. “The Quiet Ones” was also the eighth episode out of the twelve ordered for Season 5 (which you can stream with a Hulu subscription), so there are not too many left for 9-1-1: Lone Star to finish the storyline and cut Carlos a break.
When 9-1-1: Lone Star Is Ending
Fox unveiled their TV lineup for 2025 mere hours before the broadcast of the latest episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star. This revelation confirmed that the spinoff series, 9-1-1, will return for its winter premiere on Monday, January 20 at its regular 8 p.m. ET time and will culminate in a series finale on Monday, February 3.
In two weeks, Episode 9 will mark the fall finale of “Lone Star.” This means that we’ll have a winter premiere on January 20 and a series finale on February 3. Consequently, the show won’t take any breaks, airing its last few episodes straight through. I can only wish there were more time to delve deeper into Carlos’ story before the end.
It’s been revealed that showrunner Rashad Raisani hinted to TopMob this autumn that the series 9-1-1: Lone Star was likely to be cancelled by Fox, even before the official announcement. This may suggest that the writers chose to write a finale providing resolution instead of leaving cliffhangers for each character, including Carlos, who could finally uncover the truth about his father.
Discover when the last episodes of the series will air, beginning with the winter finale on December 2nd at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. Until then, feel free to catch up on previous episodes by streaming them through Hulu.
