As a film enthusiast with over three decades of watching and analyzing television shows under my belt, I must say that the latest fall finale of FBI: Most Wanted was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The gritty case of the week involving corrupt cops tested our beloved characters, particularly Barnes and Ray, to their limits. It’s always heartening to see them emerge unscathed, but I can’t help but feel empathy for Barnes in her personal struggles.
The relationship woes on the Task Force are as intriguing as the cases they solve. Remy’s long-distance romance with Abby took a hit when she declined his offer to stay together during her New York stint, and Hana discovered Ethan’s drug problem, which led to a dramatic exit.
Barnes has been a favorite character of mine ever since she joined the show, and Roxy Sternberg’s portrayal is nothing short of brilliant. I was thrilled when she returned for Season 6, and the showrunner had teased an arc for her that would explore her identity post-divorce. We’ve seen early stages of Barnes dealing with her new reality, but I’m eagerly waiting for her to “get out there” as promised.
The winter premieres for all three shows in the FBI universe are scheduled for January 27, and I can hardly wait! Until then, I’ll be rewatching the first big Barnes episode of Season 6, hoping that it’s a sign of more great things to come.
And as they say in my hometown, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade… or in Barnes’ case, maybe find a new recipe for self-discovery!
The climactic episode of “FBI: Most Wanted” was filled with high tension, but the case of the week stood out as it put Barnes and Ray in a tough spot against a group of corrupt cops who were also racially prejudiced. Fortunately, neither of them suffered any physical harm, allowing Ray to return home to Cora and Caleb. However, Barnes seems to be still waiting for some positive news following her recent personal setbacks. The dissolution of Barnes’ marriage was just one of several relationship crises that are currently dominating the 2025 TV schedule, with Remy receiving a cold response from Abby and Hana discovering Ethan’s drug issue being more pressing concerns for viewers.
Relationship Woes On The Task Force
Shows within CBS’ FBI universe primarily focus on professional duties rather than relationships, but CBS’ Most Wanted has delved into the personal lives of its characters during Season 6, notably Remy’s relationship with Abby. This relationship appeared to be going smoothly, as is often the case in Most Wanted. The news that Abby would need to stay in New York for an extended period sparked speculation about a potential living arrangement between them while she was there.
Abby refused Remy’s proposal, yet provided some somewhat feeble but undeniably reasonable explanations as to why she didn’t want to transform their long-distance relationship into cohabitation, because she had to deal with a situation in New York City. They didn’t split up during the fall finale, but Remy wasn’t particularly enthusiastic following her decision not to stay with him. (You can watch the fall finale now with a Paramount+ subscription.)
Meanwhile, that’s undeniably disappointing for Dylan McDermott’s character, but it’s nothing compared to Hana, who went from excitedly anticipating a night at the Rockettes’ Christmas Spectacular with her virtuous boyfriend, to discovering his drug addiction and angrily leaving his apartment.
David Hudgins’ remarks imply that Michael Raymond-James’ character may not have departed the show permanently, leaving room for potential developments in 2025. It seems Hana might require support similar to how Barnes relied on Hana earlier this season. As for Barnes, well, there are intriguing storylines ahead!
I’m Ready For More Barnes
I’ve long admired Barnes and Roxy Sternberg’s portrayal of the agent character on “Most Wanted”, and I consider myself fortunate that Sternberg is one of the last original cast members still involved with the series. Although her character was absent during the early episodes of Season 6, the showrunner had hinted at her storyline before the premiere in the fall. As David Hudgins shared with TopMob prior to the autumn launch, he had revealed some details about her upcoming arc.
Currently, Barnes is a single woman. Her children reside in Washington D.C. This year, we have an intriguing storyline about Barnes as she navigates self-discovery. With her former identity as a wife behind her, she is focusing on being a mom and embracing her newfound singleness. Instead of dwelling on her past, she’s determined to seize the opportunity and venture into new experiences. This will include meeting new people and sharing exciting tales that take Barnes to places she hasn’t explored before.
So far, we’ve watched Barnes navigate her divorce from Charlotte and her children living far away. The latest episode focusing on Barnes hinted at her initial steps towards accepting her new circumstances and moving forward. What remains to be seen is Barnes taking action and venturing out into the world.
According to the showrunner’s remarks in October, it isn’t guaranteed that we’ll see a romantic connection for the character soon following her breakup with Charlotte on FBI: Most Wanted. However, these comments do hint at the possibility of another intriguing Barnes episode as the series returns in the new year. Despite the focus on Remy and Hana’s relationship and unanswered questions about Nina, I am hopeful that more attention will be given to Roxy Sternberg’s character in upcoming episodes.
At present, viewers are asked to be patient as they await the return of FBI: Most Wanted, along with FBI and FBI: International, on CBS. The winter premieres for each show are slated for Monday, January 27, in their regular time slots. In the meantime, you can catch up on past episodes from the latest seasons of these shows on Paramount+. I’m looking forward to revisiting the significant Barnes episode from Season 6, hoping for more exciting developments possibly by 2025!
