As a long-time fan who’s been following the thrilling tales of One Chicago and FBI, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia when I see Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos reuniting after their years on Chicago P.D.. It feels like revisiting an old friendship that’s still very much alive. Their recent European adventure is a refreshing change from the chilly Windy City heat, but it also stirs up thoughts about what could be next for these two talented actors in the Dick Wolf universe.
Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos spent many scenes together during their years on “Chicago P.D.”, as their characters transitioned from partners to friends to spouses. However, the relationship between their characters, known as Upstead, didn’t have a happy ending when Halstead left Chicago abruptly in Season 10. Showrunner Gwen Sigan explained why Halstead didn’t return for Upton’s departure at the end of Season 11. Lately, these former co-stars have been posting photos of their time spent together in Europe, leading me to wonder: could they be reuniting on “FBI: International”?
The Chicago P.D. Co-Stars Reunite
Softener, reappearing as the lead in CBS’s “FBI: International” for the 2024 TV lineup, has been abroad filming his latest series, set in Budapest. He shared photos of his travels on Instagram, including stops in Spain and hangouts with Spiridakos. Here are some snapshots:

Without a doubt, they’re no longer in Chicago! Tracy Spiridakos has been sharing updates about their journey to Lisbon on Instagram. She even posted a photo similar to the one her former on-screen PD partner had, along with a collection of other pictures. Here are some snapshots for you to see:

Discussing the shift from shooting in Chicago’s summer warmth during this season! It’s plausible that Tracy Spiridakos went to Spain for leisure, but given the upcoming debut of FBI: International, where Jesse Lee Soffer takes on his first leading role since departing Chicago P.D., I can’t help but ponder what it would be like to see their characters sharing the screen again.
What About FBI: International?
In case they appear together on the show “FBI: International”, it wouldn’t mark an Upstead reunion, as Soffer will be portraying a character distinct from Jay Halstead, despite both shows being part of the same Dick Wolf TV universe. The specifics about his new role are not yet fully disclosed at this point.
In a similar vein, it’s not uncommon for actors like Jeremy Sisto (from FBI), Alana de la Garza, and Dylan McDermott (from FBI: Most Wanted) to have previously played characters in NBC’s Law & Order series before transitioning to CBS. Isn’t it amusing to imagine Spiridakos appearing on FBI: International as Upton, while Soffer takes on a new role?
Hailey Upton serves as the link between the FBI on CBS and One Chicago/Law & Order on NBC following her partnership with OA in Season 2, which was initially planned to be part of several episodes featuring Tracy Spiridakos on FBI. However, COVID-19 shutdowns altered this original plan. Additionally, Chicago P.D. did not clarify Upton’s subsequent activities after departing from the Windy City, leading some to speculate that she might have joined the FBI instead.
It’s an intriguing idea, isn’t it? Given that Soffer is joining the Fly Team on FBI: International, I can’t help but wonder if Spiridakos might make an appearance too. After all, Jeremy Sisto and Alana de la Garza played together on Law & Order before appearing in different roles on FBI. Why not have a reunion of sorts between Soffer and Spiridakos on International following their time on Chicago P.D.? It seems like anything could happen in the Wolf Entertainment TV universe!
Currently, fans can look forward to the official premiere of Jesse Lee Soffer in the show FBI: International, which will air after the series resumes for its fourth season on Tuesday, October 15 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. The episode will be sandwiched between FBI at 8 p.m. ET and FBI: Most Wanted at 10 p.m. ET. For those who want to reminisce about Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos’ time together on the show Chicago P.D., all their shared seasons can be streamed with a Peacock Premium subscription.
