After Georgie And Mandy’s First Marriage Brought Back George Sr. For Emotional Episode, The Show’s EP Weighed In On Whether He’ll Return

Warning: Plot details from Season 1, Episode 12 of the series “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,” titled “Typhoid Georgie.” Proceed with care to avoid spoilers!

The TV series titled “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” has been scheduled for 2025 and continues to offer unexpected twists with each episode. Apart from hinting at the character of Caltech student Sheldon, it has also featured actors from the prequel of “The Big Bang Theory”. Among them is Lance Barber reprising his role as George Sr., despite being written off before the end of “Young Sheldon”. Now, the show’s executive producer is pondering whether Barber might make a comeback in this spin-off series.

In the most recent installment of “Georgie & Mandy,” titled “Typhoid Georgie,” the character portrayed by Montana Jordan, Georgie, fell ill with the flu and imagined his dad while fretting over whether he’s adequately providing for his family. The episode featured a humorous, unexpected twist where George Sr. transformed into a temporary zombie. However, it was also moving as Georgie got to spend time with his father figure, even if it was just in a dream.

Given that Georgie and Mandy managed to get Barber on the show once, might there be a chance they could do it again? According to co-creator Steve Holland, the likelihood of George Sr.’s return is:

To put it simply, while we deeply appreciate Lance and his contributions to our show, we must prioritize the narrative above personal preferences. Bringing back certain individuals might seem appealing, but we can’t force them into the storyline for our own gain. We aim to differentiate this from the Bob Newhart scenario in The Big Bang Theory, where the character was more self-aware and acknowledged he was a product of Sheldon’s imagination. With George, we wanted to avoid repeating that dynamic and create a unique approach if we ever decide to bring him back, ensuring it doesn’t become a simple rehash of the ghost mentor storyline from The Big Bang Theory.

While I’d certainly enjoy seeing Barber reprise his role as George Sr., Holland raises a valid point. If he were to return, it wouldn’t be as simple as just agreeing to do so; the outcome could go either way. Moreover, any return would need to be cleverly integrated into the storyline to make sense. To be frank, one appearance might suffice, given that Georgie managed to find some closure with his father in the previous instances.

Given that Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is among the nine CBS shows recently renewed, there’s a chance Barber might reappear in some role. It could be a dream sequence, flashback, or even an old VHS tape – any appearance would be thrilling. Yet, at this point, it’s not certain if this will actually occur.

Despite Lance Barber being absent for now, Georgie & Mandy have an interesting link with both Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory. Intriguingly, Montana Jordan is the only actor to portray the same character across all three series; he played George Sr., while Barber appeared as Georgie via VHS tape on The Big Bang Theory. If Iain Armitage were to reprise his role as Sheldon, then both he and his on-screen father and brother (Georgie & Mandy) would share this unique connection.

Individuals who have a Max membership can catch up on all seven seasons of ‘Young Sheldon’, especially if they find themselves yearning for George Sr.’s presence. On the other hand, fans eager to witness Barber’s latest portrayal of the Cooper patriarch in ‘Georgie & Mandy’ should subscribe to Paramount+ as that’s where the most recent episode is currently streaming.
