After Rumors Swirled About Monday Night's Raw After Moving To Netflix, Nick Khan's Response Makes So Much Sense To Me

As a gamer who’s been through countless hours of virtual battles and wrestling matches, I can’t help but get pumped at the thought of Monday Night Raw gracing my Netflix queue starting January 6th. With rumors swirling about a potential revival of the Attitude Era, I was braced for some hardcore, R-rated action. But thanks to Nick Khan’s recent clarification, it seems that WWE is sticking to its family-friendly roots – and honestly, I couldn’t be more relieved!

Among all upcoming TV events slated for 2025, nothing sparks more anticipation in me than the shift of WWE’s Monday Night Raw from traditional television to Netflix. Ever since this news broke, speculation has been rife about the transformations that could occur when the wrestling giant transfers its marquee show to streaming platforms. Some have even hinted at a possible resurgence of the contentious Attitude Era.

It’s well-known that Netflix often features adult content, but considering WWE’s long history of promoting primarily PG-rated material, would they want to revisit older themes? After a joint press conference between the two companies (which was attended by Sports Illustrated and others), we now have an answer that seems quite logical.

Nick Khan Addresses Rumors Of Monday Night Raw Becoming More Extreme

On Monday Night Raw, CM Punk and others hinted at being able to express themselves freely without TV censorship restrictions. Yet, it seems the WWE might not allow such unrestricted speech.

Regarding this aspect, Nick Khan clarified that there’s no intention to alter the product’s rating since its transition from USA Network to Netflix.

Our decision regarding the rating of our content remains unchanged. There’s been some buzz suggesting a potential R or X rating, but rest assured, this is not on the horizon. Instead, we are committed to creating family-friendly, multi-generational programming that is suitable for advertisers as well. As our relationship with Netflix evolves, expect more international influence in our content.

Although the WWE occasionally incorporates some profanity when stars like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson appear, it appears that the organization will continue to produce content suitable for all ages on Netflix. Therefore, there’s no need for concern about adjusting Netflix subscriptions to filter out specific content at this time.

Why It Makes Sense WWE Is Not Switching The Tone Of Monday Night Raw

Speaking from personal experience, taking my child to Monday Night Raw in 2024, I can attest that WWE remains appealing for kids. With the move to Netflix on the horizon, the company aims to expand its audience without alienating current viewers by significantly altering its content.

WWE Blew My Mind With The New Day’s Anniversary Segment, But I’m Most Excited About What It Might Be Setting Up

It’s important to point out that this Netflix deal could generate excitement for future WWE events, many of which are supported by major corporations. Maintaining a product that is appealing enough for the largest advertisers to continue doing business with the company seems crucial, and given this, I never believed the Attitude Era would return in a serious way.

The good news is that the current WWE product is very good, and I’d say the “PG” tagline often thrown on it can be misleading. I would liken it to a live sporting event, in which almost anything can happen. Occasionally, there will be swearing, blood, and unexpected raunchiness. Honestly, its version of PG aligns more with what the rating meant in the ’80s, and that may give readers a better idea of what to expect when Monday Night Raw makes its big debut on the legacy streamer.

Be sure to tune in to Netflix on January 6th, Monday, for the debut of Monday Night Raw. Although it might not reach the intensity of the Attitude Era, I’m certain there will be some major surprises during the premiere show and throughout as we approach WrestleMania season.
