After Ryan Reynolds Spilled The Beans About Rob McElhenney’s Ill-Fated Deadpool And Wolverine Cameo, The It's Always Sunny Star Had A Funny Confirmation Post

As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt and a soft spot for superhero movies, I have to say that the recent revelation about Rob McElhenney’s cut Deadpool 3 cameo left me both intrigued and a little disappointed.

Indeed, we’re still amazed by the clever cameos Marvel Studios managed in Deadpool and Wolverine, but as time goes by, we’re uncovering more details about potential cast members for Deadpool 3. As Ryan Reynolds recently announced, his friend Rob McElhenney from Welcome To Wrexham filmed a scene for the Marvel movie, although it didn’t end up in the final cut. After this news broke, McElhenney shared a humorous reaction to the situation.

What Was Rob McElhenney’s Deadpool And Wolverine Cameo

Having been a long-time fan of the Marvel Universe and having had the privilege to delve into the world of Deadpool and Wolverine, I eagerly anticipate every behind-the-scenes glimpse that Ryan Reynolds shares on his Instagram. This week, he treated us to two photos featuring Rob McElhenney in character as a Time Variance Authority (TVA) soldier for their upcoming movie. As someone who has followed both actors’ careers and enjoyed their unique humor, I can hardly wait to see how they bring these iconic characters to life on the big screen. It seems that every day, the hype surrounding this project grows stronger, and I am genuinely excited to witness the final product.

In an exciting turn of events, as I had eagerly anticipated following previous speculations, it turned out that Rob McElhenney was indeed part of the star-studded cast for Deadpool and Wolverine. Yet, during the editing process, it seemed the sequence featuring him didn’t quite align with the directors’ original vision.

Reynolds explained that he felt “deeply embarrassed” when McElhenney traveled to London for a part that didn’t make it to the final cut of the movie. Yet, he appreciated having his friend on set with him. As he went on, he confessed that his heart rate drops and his nervous system quiets down in his presence, which made the whole experience worthwhile for him.

After saying “RIP TVA Soldier” to Rob McElhenney’s lost role, he also answered a fan question about the specifics of the part on his Instagram story as well. In his words:

At the beginning of the show, Deadpool employs a Time Stick belonging to a TVA Agent against him. As a result, this specific TVA Agent is erased and disappears into nothingness, known as The Void. It’s important to note that this very same TVA Agent is being portrayed by Rob in the storyline.

It appears that McElhenney’s appearance may involve a humorous scene reminiscent of the initial “Bye Bye Bye” sequence, where one of the soldiers he battles ends up in The Void and subsequently encounters Deadpool. Given the numerous comedic elements in this film, it’s understandable that not every attempt (even those featuring a close friend and talented actor) resulted in a successful joke.

The Funny Way McElhenney Confirmed His Cut Deadpool Role

As a hardcore gamer, I couldn’t help but chime in when Reynolds dropped that backstage bombshell. And true to form, McElhenney came back with an epic, spot-on response!

How am I supposed to go back to writing dick jokes today? 😭

It’s clear that Rob McElhenney knew about his brief appearance in the film before its premiere, and he recognizes that not every humorous scene can make it to the final cut. Moreover, the actor shared a photo from the set on his Instagram story, including some shots with Reynolds – one of which was from a lighthearted Wham! parody created by a fan featuring the two of them.

In an alternate phrasing, here’s how you could rephrase it: The actor from It’s Always Sunny shared another behind-the-scenes photo with another image featuring him and Reynolds, accompanied by some broken heart emojis. If you had nearly been cast in one of the biggest films set to release in 2024, you might feel a bit pained as well!

In the end, it seems that the friends behind “Welcome To Wrexham” truly enjoy collaborating, regardless of the results. Although it would have been thrilling to watch Rob McElhenney as Deadpool or Wolverine, it appears he’ll have his moment in the limelight when the film is released on home screens, with bonus features showcasing his talent.
