But when he announces his intention to adapt the timeless tale of The Odyssey, the story that’s been captivating audiences for centuries, the excitement will likely reach unprecedented levels. And with a star-studded cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Zendaya in tow… well, people’s expectations are going through the roof!
When it was recently confirmed that Nolan’s new project was an adaptation of The Odyssey, many wondered if Tom Holland, whose casting in the film had already been announced, would be playing the lead role of Odysseus, as the understanding was that Holland had a major role in the project. However, Universal Pictures confirmed this morning with a single shot that the role of Odysseus is actually set to be played by another previously mentioned member of the cast: frequent Nolan collaborator Matt Damon (who, it must be said, looks incredible).

It’s worth noting that many people proposed Tom Holland for the role in the movie, which turned out to be “The Odyssey”. Given his age, Tom Holland might seem young for a conventional portrayal of Odysseus. However, considering Christopher Nolan could have been working on an unconventional retelling of the story, it’s plausible. But, Matt Damon is old enough to be Holland’s father, making their potential relationship more believable in a traditional sense.
In the grand tale of “The Odyssey”, Telemachus plays a crucial role, serving as the main character in its significant side storyline. As the son of Odysseus, he embarks on a personal quest to locate his long-lost father.
In addition to the previously mentioned potential cast member, Anne Hathaway as Queen Penelope appears to be a plausible choice given the current circumstances. However, it’s important to note that the cast for The Odyssey is quite extensive, and at this point, only Matt Damon’s role has been officially confirmed. As a result, various possibilities are still on the table. Although Greek gods and goddesses play a significant role in Homer’s epic poem, it remains uncertain how prominent they will be in the movie adaptation, if at all.
At this stage, the idea that Holland might portray Telemachus is largely speculative, but it seems to be the most plausible scenario given the circumstances. With The Odyssey set for production in the near future, slated for a summer 2026 release, it’s likely that additional casting details will emerge over the coming months.
